Actually this was addressed in the Korean live letter. The issue wasn't the outfit itself, and to compare the outfit with the nazi uniform is fallacious and will mislead others to believe the same. The crux of the issue was the name of the outfit which was called "Taisho Roman outfit" by the FFXIV Chinese team. That term "taisho roman" (roman is shortened for romantic) is to romanticize/glorify the era of the taisho period during which the Japanese were oppressing the Koreans. That was the issue and what sparked outrage to some Korean players because it felt like that the taisho era was romanticized and used to market the outfit, not the kimonos itself which is a varied style of kimonos which both Japanese civilian and Korean students (forced) had to wear. The issue was the name that was tied to it--to which the Chinese team apologized and promised it wouldn't happen again. And as you can see the names for these outfits has been changed to "Far Eastern" instead of be being kept as "Taisho Roman" which was the original intended name in the Chinese servers. The devs are very well aware I'm sure which is why it was changed to Far Eastern. Translation: "A few days ago, the controversial outfit on the Chinese server was released, and I would like to hear about the stance of the Korean Development Team."

A. 중국 공식 SNS에서 일부 유저 분께서 오해하실 만한 표현이 사용된 점에 대해서는 중국 운영팀에도 경위를 설명하고 향후 재발이 없도록 약속해 주셨습니다. 참고로 해당 아이템의 정식 명칭은 글로벌판 모든 언어와 중국판, 한국판 모두 '동방 사생 의상', '동방 유학생 의상'입니다.

한국판에서는 아직 실장되지 않은 상태로 향후 방침에 대해서는 계속해서 모험가들의 의견에 수렴하여 검토해나갈 예정입니다.

If they're concerned about the outfit, there must be a reason for it. My reasons for supporting OP are my own. If you are mad at the Korean fanbase for being upset about it, especially without attempting to understand why they are upset, then you are insensitive.

However with the context of the post above mine taken into account, I think it's clear that the Korean fanbase cares more for how the outfit is framed than whether or not it exists.

Thank you for your sources. I tried to find some sort of reply from the Dev's about this issue and I couldn't, so I'm really glad someone could find it and share it with everyone. All the new links I have found about the clothes discourse are all about the Taisho era and the problematic romanticization that surrounds this era. this being one of them: https://namu.wiki/w/%EB%8B%A4%EC%9D%...A1%9C%EB%A7%9D (Unfortunately due to NA having close to no information about this period, most of the sources I find are in Korean. I'll try to post more if I find any.)

I personally think people are focusing too much on my comparison to a Nazi uniform, it wasn't my intention to say they are the exact same thing, its just a similar feeling that's invoked. I stated that in my original post, so I'm not sure why people are harping on this specific point. I never stated it was the same.

I also wanted to add this for others commenting on this post: I was not upset when I posted this thread, and I do not think my post is in anyway emotional. If you actually read the links I provided, there are multiple credited resources posted in the links, even if they're just 'tumblr and twitter'.

I just wanted to educate others on why the outfit will have a negative reaction with some players. That is all. I'm not calling for action, I'm not asking for an apology, I'm not asking for the outfit to be removed. If you like the outfit, that's fine. buy it, wear it. It was a Japanese school uniform too after all. Quoting another player: "If you REALLY WANT IT. Buy it. Just don’t be INSENSITIVE with it. If you have friends who are from Korea, make sure they aren’t triggered by it. Showing a little compassion matters."

Please act with kindness and compassion about this matter, since this isn't an 'ancient' issue, there are still protests being held in Korea for Japan to take ownership of all the atrocities that happened during their occupation. If you don't like my post and have nothing but insensitive things to say, then take your own advice, and ignore this post.
