GM Warning for 'Offensive Language', No actual reason given

Ironically I agree. People are immature, and they lie, and situations often times are contextual.

Which is why it makes these GM practices even more infuriating. Anyone with a bone to pick can report 'anyone' if they deem anything 'offensive/inappropriate', and they have no repercussions to fear. How is a GM going to prove what you're genuinely 'offended' about and what you 'genuinely' consider inappropriate, and when you are just trying to get other people into hot water because you're an immature child?

I feel there's a bit of Chicken-Littling when it comes to the new ToS rules and how easy it is to get warning/banned/etc. Obviously I don't have any sort of numbers at all here, but I feel like we'd see far more complaints if people were honestly getting in trouble over nothing.

In your case, you stated that the warning was probably justified. I do agree with you though that it would be helpful to actually provide the reported text in their email reply. As mentioned earlier, when I got my forum ban, the email included the reported comment. I'm not sure how they actually handle in-game warnings.

From my understanding, GMs will review chat logs. People can report all day long, but if nothing is iffy is turning up in the logs, I'm thinking their response probably isn't "lets give this guy a warning anyway!".

Someone can't just make up anything and say they were offended to get you in trouble, it has to pass a reasonable person standard. It doesn't really matter if the person who reported you was really offended or not, if you used profanity or said something really out of line that an outside observer could interpret as offensive then you broke the rules.

I've not received any transcripts or refferals to any word I apparently used that was offensive or inappropriate. Not one.

The official statement just reads;

We are writing to inform you that a warning has been issued to the FINAL FANTASY XIV service account registered to this e-mail address on 28/05/2019 due to a confirmed breach of the following rules and agreements:

yeah, I find it unacceptable that the GM's don't tell you what you did wrong and expect you to magically improve your behavior. The problem with this is, with the new rules they added... ANYTHING can be found offensive. So you literally can have no idea why you're being warned and then expect you to improve ur behavior is shady as heck. This sounds more like they don't really want to put in alot of resources in making responsible decisions and instead leave it ambiguous so that people keep all their conversations out of game and put in bare minimum responses in-game so that less tickets are generated.

Whats worse is that GM's don't care if you contest their decision or not. They'll give you the ban or warning and their minds won't be changed even if they're in the wrong. Someone some time ago made a post during the time where that housing demolition glitch was going on where they posted their in-game ticket with a GM that clearly stated he accessed his house but the timer ignored it and he lost the house and won't be restoring it and that it's his fault for not accessing the house even though he did. ...like what?

They need to revert to old rules or change the rules again and make the GM's put more time and effort. That's not even mentioning the ban happy GM's in the forums and the hundreds of people that got banned for little to no reason in here. Even one of the hardcore male viera thread fans got banned recently.

It's really starting to get out of hand.

You know i find it funny that profanity/offensive language is a violation when the game itself actually has a feature that censor profanity. People who can't take profanity should just turn on this feature what's so difficult?

Offensive language is difficult and subjected to one's opinion. I could just say healers adjust plz and people will get offended too.

I can be plenty offensive while using perfectly clean words. :3 Profanity filter won't help you then!

But yes, I would agree that bit is obviously more subjective, up to a point.

Overall I do think that some reports based off my personal view of toxic or offensive are nothing short of pointless though my bar for what is considered toxic or offensive is abnormally high or so I have been told. What it really comes down to for me is that the rules fail to encompass a transparent scale as to what is offensive and what is not. While it may seem silly I would personally like a detailed list for example some people view comments such as kill yourself you suck as offensive or not constructive. For me that phrase is what got me into raiding back when I played WoW, and it got me to really think and look over how I played my class and caused me to seek out into to improve myself. For me what the person said was not toxic, and I am forever grateful to that random stranger.

So overall it does confuse me when people say it is one should know what the ToS means, since I do view myself as a reasonable person, while I do not say such things because I like to avoid conflict that is my personal choice and it not done because I feel what was said was wrong or offensive. Would not hurt if they expanded upon what they really meant within the ToS, but that will not happen since I understand the purpose of the ToS is to be as vague as possible to cover as many variables as possible.

Since they updated the ToS I've tried my best to not communicate inside the game. Since we have the blacklist function, the report function for harassment should be used at the last resource. Until this keeps as it is I will force myself to avoid unnecessary communication inside the game. Thank god there's other ways to communicate.

Ive meet players that just looks over the chat to search for things to report, and it scared me.
I said unnecessary communication, this means that I use the chat when needed.
