GM Warning for 'Offensive Language', No actual reason given

There is a lot that can be said without having the context of the conversation that actually occurred. Regardless the updated rules were put in place to help push out toxicity. Whatever was said likely underscores toxic behavior. Even if you were right about whatever the conversation may have been, offensive language was used.

Common sense is lacking quite often though. There is a reason why the OF, and I think even the Sub, doesn't allow names to be dropped.

I mean seriously if your offend black list the person. if you don't have enough common sense 2 do that then you Desevered the insult until you learn to ignore and blacklist. Like damn what happan since i got out of hs in 2010 when if you were offend ignore and blacklist and move on with your life dn back then things and people didn't cuddle every1. i kinda blame blizzard and stuff for this but really and I'm saying this as someone who was bullyed and sent to an asylum ... i mean i know I'm mentally weak but to think people are much more weaker than i am now that cant block and ignore...

It's not a matter of holding hands or not. Witch hunts are extremely easy to get started, especially on forums. Quite often people grab their pitchforks with very little actual "proof" of anything at all. Top that off with people like to embellish their actual experiences or straight out lie about what has happened. There have been several times in the "Tales from Duty Finder" where people got caught lying, and they were actually the one causing the problems. Just think about how often it doesn't get found out? Being able to name and shame just isn't worth it.

It's more likely they're told to re-direct all feedback, questions and criticisms to the forums in order to protect their own asses. GM's have a very strict guidelines on what they're allowed to say and what not, they get coached in it, and deviating from that usually earns issues. Besides, it makes sense in the sense that they're not the ones that decide what the ToS looks like nor how it is enforced, they're just told to 'enforce it'.

Basically GM's are Cops and Judges, whoever writes the ToS are the Lawyers and Lawmakers, and you're the poor shmuck on trial without due procedure.

Ironically I agree. People are immature, and they lie, and situations often times are contextual.

Which is why it makes these GM practices even more infuriating. Anyone with a bone to pick can report 'anyone' if they deem anything 'offensive/inappropriate', and they have no repercussions to fear. How is a GM going to prove what you're genuinely 'offended' about and what you 'genuinely' consider inappropriate, and when you are just trying to get other people into hot water because you're an immature child?

The best advice I can give since I've been playing FFXIV for many years since its release. Is " NEVER EVER TALK IN GAME". And I mean it. Trust me I've seen people ban for silly reasons in this game. The GMs in this game don't tell you what you did wrong half the time and they expect you to know what you did and to never do it again. And they are very quick to throw out the ban hammer on you. And all that hard work of leveling all your classes, crafters etc will go to waste and all that money you spent on subbing to this game has went to waste. I do feel like the GMs ingame need to give the player they are dealing with more of a chance.

I've played the game for almost 9 years and I've never had a gm called on me, and i haven't had to keep from talking to randoms.

Just like we pay taxes that fund the wages of the members in Congress/Parliament that represent us doesn't mean they literally have to do everything we say or show us bias, they still have rules to adhere and are expected to follow regardless of who voted for them you know. Also not all of the sub goes back in to FFXIV, a lot of it is directed around by SE to wherever they want in the company, for all that we know the GMs are this game are financed by other IPs.
