What's the point of being gil capped if there's nothing to spend money on?
It is pretty naive to think SE has done anything to prevent house reselling considering FC houses can be traded, like they always could, and players resell desirable plot locations for personal housing relocation. The only thing that has changed in the reselling of houses since 2.1 is that you can't buy your way in other than through an FC house. That's it.
There would be enough plots for everyone if small houses still costed 15-20m. If you don't own a plot despite "swimming in gil", you're either not even trying, refusing to purchase someone's FC house or you don't want to get off your populated server when there are plenty of available plots, near the minimum value, on other servers.
I acquired all of these on my own. I think out of the 23, previously 24, FC houses I own, I only bought 4. The 3 personals obviously couldn't be bought, but I managed to land them in the non-subdivision part of the ward until one of the remaining neighbors I have grabs that eviction check. I leveled up those 3 characters. I grinded those FCs to rank 6/8. I grinded to gil cap in order to be able to acquire houses/offer ridiculous amounts of gil to my neighbors. I beat the purchase timer numerous time. You don't see me complaining. You don't see other multiple house owners complain about the purchase timer, they just roll with it.
Players complaining about the previous housing system, despite being flawless, is the reason why aspiring house owners are dealing with this system. That's called justice I guess.
The 2.1 prices were awesome as it gave housing a purpose and an actual meaning. You had FCs trash talking in front of empty plots because they had to gamble with the devaluation timer. That timer has been completely pointless on any non-dead server for more than two years. Whether you like it or not, housing is supposed to take gil out of the game and it's really not doing a great job right now because everyone and their chocobo can afford to purchase a small house.
You only work for something if you end up acquiring it. Until then, we can argue that it's wasted time. Just like complaining on a forum.
