    5.0 Pet Changes

    In the live letter they said pets would not longer be able to be targeted by enemies and players. What about the chocobo companion?

    They were exclusively referring to Summoner "pets" also known as egi.

    Edit: Whoops. Forgot SCH existed. This applies to SCH as well.

    They said the SCH pet as well falls under this, the fairy will not be targetable (except for directing it to do stuff). The Chocobo essentially functions as an AI party member, it's not a pet.

    Does that mean that Topaz Carbuncle and Titan-egi are useless now? I used to summon these to help out lowbies when the tank leaves early.

    It was implied that they will have new abilities, probably giving the summoner defensive buffs/healing so they can still solo as effectively as before

    They will have a new function as an attack-type egi. In the Live Letter, Titan-egi's special ability was referred to as "Earthen Armor," possibly being some kind of defensive cooldown.
