I personally feel EX fights shouldn't be part of the mentor roulette. These fights often need good verbal chat to even get close to downing in the 60min window. Sure I have killed one, ONCE but every single other one always end in a vote dismiss.

If people want help with these fights ask in an FC or try to get a party finder group going.

    Just my opinion.

JP servers are probably the reason why extremes are still in mentor rou. Lower chance to find people who want to be spoon-fed information or get carried in a former, synced end-game fight, so they don't have as many issues as we do.

Just another bad thing we have to deal with because people love to enter duties they are not ready for, hoping someone else does the work for them.

Don't you know only mentors are capable of going offline when they land in a duty they don't like?

Idk about you but I'm gonna get Berlinda *goes looking for used pitchfork, coated with old mentor blood with Berlinda inscribed on it*

You cant prove if someone disconnected intentionally. Perhaps they had a power outage, Comcast internet outage, etc. People should not get punished for that and since there is no way telling, SE has no fix for that.

Mentors are specifically there to help people who want help. Mentor roulette is not for Mentors to get a quick clear and call it a day. If people can't handle that they might be in a duty for an hour then they shouldn't run the roulette. Simple as that.

The entire point of being a Mentor is to help players who want to be "spoon-fed information." We became Mentors to help people, not to decide who is or isn't ready for content.

Correct. But Mentors also have the right to bail if they don't feel like sticking around, whether it's before the trial even begins or 10 wipes later. We can't decide who is or isn't ready but we can sure as heck see it. Sometimes it's best to leave and help the next group. I guess it more or less comes down to how they bail, and intentionally disconnecting is the wrong way to do so. Best way to approach it is to leave without starting any drama, eat the 30 min timer and move on.

    Yeah, nah to that one.

Being a mentor and helping new players is fine, but helping people trying to do synced EX content is gonna be a pass for me. Once you hit level 50 you shouldn't need mentors or the NN anymore, and I ain't spoon feeding anyone anything. Mentors help new players, not lazy players.

The entire point of being a mentor is to help people help themselves. I feel like your approach to being a mentor is to do everything for someone, which isn’t beneficial.

The best advice you can give to people in EX trials in the DF is to use the Party Finder. I always assume that they're blissfully unaware that it exists if I ever wind up in an EX trial. I give them 15 minutes of my time, then vote abandon unless things are unexpectedly going well. I also generally keep my mouth shut unless people are actively asking for advice (aside from maybe a "Does anyone have any questions about this duty?" after the first wipe). I've been bitched at enough times for unsolicited advice, that I refuse to walk into that trap anymore.

I did get a particularly abrasive Titan EX a couple days ago where I had to eat a penalty to leave after they refused my vote abandon, despite rarely lasting long enough in battle to accrue echo stacks.

Regarding the specific topic brought up by the OP: Disconnecting or AFKing to avoid a penalty is dumb and rude for anyone, but it's EXTRA rude if you're a mentor.

Yes this. Like yea a mentor, or really ANY player shouldn’t disconnect to avoid the penalty.

But come back after you q for 100+ ex primals in mentor roulette and you’re likely gonna be tempted to hit that disconnect button or just to take the penalty. Especially when you start to get verbally harassed by new players, if you aren’t doing everything perfectly or you forget some things

My personal strategy when this happens is I give it a few pulls, if it is obviously not working out I offer to create a private party and clear it for them all unsynced. Which actually works out pretty much every time cause most of these new players who are q’ing for these ex primals are just doing it for the clear and don’t even understand what party finder is. So not only does it end up with them understanding how party finder works they learn that you can find more efficient ways of doing ex content. I don’t get my mentor roulette point but everyone turns out happier in the end.
