Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

I'm here to encourage the devs of finding a way to give us both genders for the both the races. You guys figured out how to give us glasses. I know with a bit of work you can figure something out.

It has nothing to do with them not knowing how. They created 2 new races with new models and meshes from scratch, they obviously know how. It's the amount of time and resources it takes to create them, making sure the gear fits, animations, emotes ect.

I have no doubt they will eventually create male viera, they are pretty good at listening to the players. But let's not confuse their ability to create them with having the resources and time on to of everything else. Give them some credit.

They just changed 540 pieces of Headgear. It was not planned, they did it on top of their workload. As much as I can understand the desire for Male Viera/Female Hrothgar - let the employees rest.

Let's be honest here. Were you honestly that excited for a entire expansion if the fact that a cosmetic aspect of a new race was going to make or break a the new expansion for you? Seems kind of odd to base your enjoyment of a entire game over a cosmetic feature that was never confirmed to begin with.

Additionally: Not being able to customize your character the way you want to (such a thing leaving a sour taste in many people's mouths and often a "straw that broke the camel's back") is a totally valid reason for someone to either not buy the expansion or let their subscription lapse. Hell, someone could unsubscribe because they're fed up that there are never any good-looking berets and let's be real there aren't, it doesn't mean that they didn't enjoy the game, it means that something irritated them enough to decide they needed time away from it.

Honestly this surprise LL was closer to a "never" than I ever expected to see from them.

While I'm overjoyed at the clarity with which they addressed the "younger models" issue I mostly stopped by to offer my condolances.

Even though some of you have been really rude or gross like that one guy who likes calling me a troll just for saying he shouldn't be able to play a kid there have been other people who I've interacted with both here and in-game who want male Viera and not for any kind of inappropriate purposes.

I've disagreed with many of you but for those who have managed to do so respectfully I'm genuinely sorry that you aren't getting the thing that you want and I hope that a lot of you will still enjoy the expansion once you're ready to!

They say you can't tell the difference between them - so they're androgynous until puberty; as you said. Which goes the same for all child races in FF14 - the only difference being hairstyle. If you look at the child models for humans/elves/aura the differences between them are extremely small. You can see this with the alisae and alphy, and in with our own children. A little boy with long hair can pass as a girl and vice versa.

Exactly. There is nothing which says this lasts beyond puberty - in fact much the same could be said of humans until puberty, which is when hormones kick in and significantly distinguish the two sexes. Sounds to me like Viera work the same way, but people keep stretching this into something that has an effect beyond puberty... there’s nothing saying that. I think the lore has more to do with how certain body parts of theirs manifest, which bears some similarity to rabbits, but they can’t say it explicitly given the game’s age rating.

Also Yoshi’s choice of handsome and comparison to elezen is pointing away from anything like Alphinaud. He’s much younger looking than any example given of any feminine males earlier in the thread, and given their comments in the letter today, I don’t see them modelling them after him at all. Their original concept art is probably the point in which they’ll focus should they add them.

I’d agree that more customisation options would be great, though, and this would ideally extend to level of muscle bulk.
