Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

Yep, compromise is the key to a degree. A height slider, muscle slider and a broad variety of base faces will serve to please almost everybody. Presenting Viera men as feminine, androgynous and short across the board will not. Thankfully I am fairly certain that we will not be denied the opportunity to create a masculine looking Viera male. Assuming they are added in the first place, of course.

Don't see anyone complaining that none of the females don't have an androgynous version - well we probably do, but I haven't seen any threads so far about the lack of androgynous females.. shrug.

Just some friendly advice, but don't call other posters 'trolls'. Even in cases where it may be justified, it's dangerous due to how strictly the rules are enforced here.

They say you can't tell the difference between them - so they're androgynous until puberty; as you said. Which goes the same for all child races in FF14 - the only difference being hairstyle. If you look at the child models for humans/elves/aura the differences between them are extremely small. You can see this with the alisae and alphy, and in with our own children. A little boy with long hair can pass as a girl and vice versa.

A great example of this is Myste from the dark knight questline!

Lore, however, doesn't matter here because of a) fantasy and b) every races/species have outliners.

There will be small viera, there will be monstrously tall viera, viera females who are flat chested, males that look extremely feminine. Of course, the limitations on the character creator doesn't allow us to have this. So yes, females can be androgynous - there just not going to put the option in for you to be a flat chested, in the middle female. The same goes with every other race. Limitations.

Mr. Yoshida said male rabbits would be wierd. I wonder if at the time he was thinking male viera would be more beast like. You have to admit that with Female Viera looking human with bunny ears that it would indeed be wierd if males were more beastial.

They're bringing more than female viera are at least, but I don't think what appears at glance to be a head swap on a roe body (bad posture aside) is as big of a shift as an actually different body type for male characters would be. But it's hard to say without actually seeing them in-game next to other characters yet. Female hrothgar would have been the best choice of all 4 if they actually wanted to diversify the character models though, no contest.

Let's see, HROTHGAR have...
Inverted triangle buff guy shape with normalized proportions setting them apart from roebros meat wall gorilla shape(as pointed out by yoshi, this leads to armor looking much better on them).
Heads can be based on the ronso race, lion ( not the same thing btw), jaguar or wolf.
They have the option to have horns or not ( likely different types of horns if the old model is anything to go on)
Can have a fur pattern or not and the fur on their bodies changes color with their hair (still to be seen if hair highlights effect anything or if there's more patterns or not).
Very unique posture and animations.

These are all things picked up from what lil we have seen and heard. They are hands down the most visually unique race in this game.

As you play through Shadowbringers, you’ll learn that both male Viera and female Hrothgar exist. While you won’t meet any in person, if we developers can find a way to address the various problems which are preventing us from implementing them, then perhaps someday you’ll be able to see them for yourself. I want to be clear that this does not mean it will eventually happen, and that I cannot make any promises at this time. I hope you will understand and bear with us.

With regards to the male Viera: Just... modify... the Elezen? Like you (seemingly and quite likely) did with the chicks? Mystery solved! You are very welcome! You can pay me with a dodo mount for solving this momentous and insurmountable issue. Also congratulations on the team for crunching headgear into existence without being told to! (Was it a birthday present...? They could have just bought him a nice pen with his birthstone on it, but cool.)

As for female Hrothgar which I can only spell because the name is up in the quote that's kind of a hole you dug for yourselves my dawg. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ We'll wait however long it takes for them, but... I find it genuinely hard to believe that nobody on the team had the foresight to see all this coming. Like, someone had to have an invisible camera zoom in on their pupil with a wooshing sound, a montage of the backlash flashing before their eyes as they dramatically screamed "WAIT!" as someone dropped a mug in slow motion.

I'm here to encourage the devs of finding a way to give us both genders for the both the races. You guys figured out how to give us glasses. I know with a bit of work you can figure something out.
