On the First, it is just a social code to never leave, but a certain Viera is permitted to come and go as they please after convincing the village elders that it was the right call. I'd be surprised if it wasn't the same way on the Source, that being a social code of conduct. Fran left the forest and apparently won't be welcomed back anytime soon.
There's also the fact that we meet one hearer among the Night's Blessed (Great Serpent Ronka storyline), so it's totally not impossible to be hearer even if you aren't Viera. They do seem to be more inclined to have this skill, hovewer... maybe exactly because of their Green Wood code.

Well, regardless on their height, I'm really happy that squire is finally going to be releasing the male viera and female hrothgar. The rest like head gears and hairstyles can be fixed for later. I mean, I don't want the staff to suffer from crunch time and etc. Give them time to address the other issues of the game.

2 details to keep in mind, the viera is slightly hunched in this picture, this is the frame before he statrs walking and the only one where his back is more or less straight, while my elezen's back is completely straight. In the video the viera is shown without any clipping, but the plank where he stands clips with the character in game, I don't know if it's still not clipping after he stands, in case he were not clipping it would make my elezen look about 1cm shorter.

I encourage anyone who wants to try to do their own comparisons.

    The originals:

    Comparison:

This is the best comparison of that scene I've seen yet, the image ratios and in game scale look similar. In other comparisons you can see parts of the background that don't match up like the window being longer. This is good, the problem is that there's no way of knowing what height slider the male Viera is using there.

Given that they were believed to be wiped out I think they'd be more surprised at seeing one before anything else. Also given the plot armor the PCs have it'd be flavor at best.

I'm curious to see if the palico from the MHW crossover would have anything witty to say. Since when you're a miq'ote and you reply with being shocked at a talking cat it retorts at the irony. Wonder if its the same hrothgar...

In case people forgot, we had a side quest in Fanow, where we gathered blankets and other necesseties for a Viera that was in her labor. There is also another side quest, where we countered killed black torama, and our Viera companion assumed that "watcher" was faster than us and that she would like to one introduce us to him one day. That said, male Viera, at least in Fanow, aren't wiped out and aren't believed to be.

Tbh I don't know since when are male viera believed to be extinct, not on the source nor the first.
I guess if you want a reason as to why they're less likely to abandon their forest maybe it has something to do with the whole forced brutal training they undergo since the age of 13, suppose that would make them more blindly loyal or something.

For individual player characters we could always make up our own backstory so it's not really needed to give a lore explanation.

For NPCS it would be easy to simply say 'oh the world's ending guess we should do something about it or the forests will perish' if they need to. Or just have some individuals who left that way of life thrust upon them by Viera culture.

Yeah I assume that NPCs will either be if we do enter their territory or like the world's ending would check out for them to leave if absolutely necessary... Player count shouldn't really matter in lore anyway.

My impression was that the Viis of Fanow don't leave because their numbers are dwindling, even without accounting for the sin eaters and the Flood, and they still have their sacred duty to guard the ruins of Ronka. With the Scions opening the ruins and purging the sin eaters, the old ways aren't necessary anymore, so some of them are changing their minds.
