Yea but who reads the ToS? Seriously? I haven't seen a single one that wasn't excessively long. And often they're written in a manner that even native speakers of the language would find difficult to understand, because it's essentially a legal document. Not something designed to be easy to read for the end user.

Sure, but the rules apply regardless. Somehow I don't think "I didn't read the ToS, you can't ban me!" has ever changed a GM's mind.

For most ToS rules where there is a clear black and white, clear-cut difference between what's allowed and what isn't, the answer is simple. Don't break the rules!

For social rules, I've always imagined they apply when people are annoyed or offended. Cursing in a friendly manner toward another person who is also cursing is kind of harmless. There's a big difference between that and telling an under-performing party member to "**** off".

No but my point is it's practically designed to make end users to not want to read it and if they do they may not even understand it.

Welcome to all legal documents, contracts, EULAs, NDAs and any other forms of rules and regulations everywhere n_n

The ToS is worded very deliberately as to allow the company's representatives to arbitrate with as much freedom as possible, change their minds later, and be protected from legal retribution if a user decided to get petty and take them to an actual court of law. Writing EULAs is an art most people fail to appreciate; nothing is in there without a good reason, and everything that is in there serves in some way to absolve the company of responsibility as much as legally possible.

And on top of that, especially with software, some rules often exist just to comply with platform/store policies and licensing agreements derived from utilised technology, IP, etc. Sometimes the company doesn't even have a choice in the matter.

Exactly. Which becomes problematic when you got a company like SE who are at times exceptionally harsh with how they deal with harassment cases, but are not clear about what exactly counts as that behaviour and at times never bother to look at the context. This leaves players very confused, uneasy and at worst feeling betrayed.

Gotta know your audience. Are you in a dungeon/town/event chatting with randoms? Probably not the best time to be dropping fbombs. Are you chatting with your own personal group of friends/FC mates where this language is acceptable? By all means, go for it.

Much like in real life, we all have the ability to say whatever we like, but you have to use common sense and your own discretion to know when and where it is appropriate to do so.
