If the general consensus in this thread is no, then would you rather they remove PVP altogether or continue with whatever they're doing with it, considering there are probably people who do enjoy PVP as it is.

Going on six years in, it's never going to catch up. That doesn't mean it should be removed, though-- keep it in the game as a side activity; it's treated no different than gold saucer with lord of verminion, triple triad, blue mage, or ultimate.
I love wow's PVP but it's popular within the community for reasons beyond it just being pretty good. WoW actually rewards you properly for pvping, with gear and with mounts that are easier to obtain. The community is also more primed mentally for PVP, as the lore and long past of WoW enables more competitive PVP play.
In xiv they just throw some mount at pvp every half a year to keep it somewhat afloat. There's no real heart in it.
No there won't because most people hate pvp and would complain if SE would spend any resources into something that they don't like. Also if SE develops more pvp i would worried about how its gonna end up because they've shown that they don't really have a idea about what pvp in an MMORPG should look like when they implemented this useless combo button system, which killed the fun in pvp for a lot of people.i loved the pvp in wow and if not for the fact that i did not enjoy almost every facet of retail wow i would probably be still subbed to play bgs.
so the question is will we ever see the variety in pvp game modes? i'd really love to see some good old fashioned capture the flag
I played both WoW and GW2 PvP and gotta say, XIV can't even hope to compare to one of those.
They fixed Feast and did mostly right with Hidden Gorge. You guys should try it, atleast on weekends when it's active.
The only broken mode is Frontline because it's competitive pvp overlaid on top competitive pve map.
24 people is still decent play if they know what they're doing. 72 is mostly followers, baits and roadkills.
It just need smaller maps, fixed 24 people, forced freelancer, and disable partying on single duty (non-roulette).
FfXIV will never have a super robust PvP system. It’s side content. However, PvP in a pve game will always be a mess imo. Whenever the game is designed around a linear gear curve the fight becomes heavily tilted towards gear. Ffxiv tried to remedy that. I don’t like the system but there are those that do.

They can make it popular if they put their minds into it. I think PvE in this game is so insanely routine that it feels like reliving my BIO 101 class: hard to memorize at the beginning, but once you got it down, it's just the most boring s*** in my entire college career. It doesn't have that randomness and adrenaline rush that PvP has. I really hope they put less focus on Eureka-like craps going forward and put more focus in PvP.

Nah, there's no reason to do that. There are plenty of people who enjoy it as it is, and every once in a while SE has an idea for PvP and they should be allowed to explore that. It just isn't a focus of the game, and that's ok.
I'd rather they give more money to Soken so he can bang out more hot tracks thank you.
