will xiv's pvp ever be as robust as wow's?

i loved the pvp in wow and if not for the fact that i did not enjoy almost every facet of retail wow i would probably be still subbed to play bgs.

so the question is will we ever see the variety in pvp game modes? i'd really love to see some good old fashioned capture the flag

Probably not. FFXIV's pvp has never been as fun as WoW's. Most people can agree that XIV's pvp is very lackluster.

I have zero interest in PVP matches, or larger content. But Dueling needs to be a thing.

I highly doubt it would ever be. You have like no self sustain, and simplified skills. They would have to rebalance/redesign the entire thing to get PvP in a good place.

    Unfortunately no.
FFXIV is PvE oriented and the entire system/engine is built just around that. What FFXIV did was put such a design onto a PvP environment and what you have is exactly what the above post pointed out. The system for PvP is lackluster, clunky, a depreciated form of WoWs PvP, which leaves much to be desired.

Just selfishly, I wouldn't want them to put any substantial amount of resources or attention into PvP. I believe they're better spent capitalising on areas that have actual potential in this game - PvE and casual/social content.

It wasn't too shabby in HW where you had all your PvE abilities, as well as some PvP ones (like WoW has), all they needed after that was a few smaller maps and a greater variety of game modes. Unfortunately they listened to the wrong people and completely gutted PvP, removing gear stats, most abilities, and making PvP rank meaningless, which just alienated hard-core pvpers while also not making it very interesting for new players. It just sucked all around.
This coming from someone who was in 3 different PvP linkshells and a PvP FC in HW.
PvP would be better if they dedicated more resources, instead of PvP always being an afterthought.

But they probably do this because whenever someone suggests any improvements to Pvpers, you get selfish PvE-only people saying "No new PvP, resources should be used on PvE only!"
As someone who likes both PvE and PvP, its always disheartening to see those comments.

PvEers get new stuff almost every patch, and PvPers get something new... 2-3 times an expansion? Usually only 1 new FL map an expansion, 1 rival wings, and 1 new feast map (but now they have made it so we only have 1 feast map full-stop).

PvP has some of the most replayable content, as every match is different and challenging. How else do PvP-centered games last for several years?
The FLs have more interest in people playing them than all the old lvl 50 and 60 dungeons.

They made 4 Eurekas, which are fully casual/social content (besides the arsenal). And people didn't like them too much. There were literally threads dedicated to players begging for no more Eureka.

Sine you have different abilities there is a feeling of disconnection in PvP like your character is just playing a game.

In Wow in world PvP and battle grounds you have that feeling of fighting for your people and homeland. In FF it's just a game or training exercise.

HW feast was thrilling, with all your abilities PvE abilities, and a few PvP ones. As a healer main, it even made me better at PvE healing, as I learned a few MP management techniques, emergency healing techniques, and it greatly improved my reaction times.

honestly i hated wows q pvp.

there is no fun in battles about ganking and not individual skill.

World pvp aka open pvp is the good pvp

speaking of skills counting ffxiv pvp gear, level, and honestly abiltys don't mean anything
