    I kinda hope not...

Games that focus on PvP always mess up PvE in order to balance PvP even when the population of PvP players is dramatically lower. Like in not only WoW, but every other MMO that does it...

I'm kinda glad they tossed in a PvP here that nobody cares for... it serves to tell the PvP players to go try a different game and not mess up this one.

I have an Overwatch account in ADDITION to an FFXIV account for a reason... and over there, if I were to post, I'd post arguing against adding PvE missions - for the SAME REASONS as my post here.

As much as I appreciate PvP- because I do get bored of running choreographed trials, raids, dungeons and FATE trains all day- and enjoy the unpredictability of enemies capable of thought (most times), whoever is responsible for XIV's PvP really seems too disconnected/disinterested and comes off as almost an obligation rather than something they actually like to do. And it has been that way for a long time, so I don't foresee XIV's afterthought-of-a-PvP ever gaining significant attention (unless Yoshi-P suddenly has a wildly random change of heart/priorities).

It's not even just about job/role balance (though that plays a part); just how they handle the system, rewards and even ranked seasons just exhibits lack of foresight and/or effort. Whenever they put new rewards or achievements for PvP it kind of comes off as: "Here, we got you this new thing, hope it keeps you busy for some extended period of time... We'll check up on you in 5 months or so... Maybe... If we remember..."

Tinfoil hat time, but I'm of the belief that the abilities were pruned so heavily in 4.0 because the balancing of jobs just became too much for their incredibly small PvP staff to handle and adjust when they're not preoccupied helping design the next ground-breaking Diadem/Eureka FATE train content.

No. This is a PvE game primarily, that's where the focus is. PvP is a side activity, nothing more.

There's a lot of main issues with FFXIVs PvP i'll go over them as quick as I can so let's get started.

    1. Simplified PvP - This is a main issue since HW had a lot more depth and fun vs to what we have now, back in HW you could use PvP and PvE abilities and it felt really good what we got now is a watered down version of what it used to be and it was a lot of fun. I remember the days when Garo was starting and I was in 2 PvP LS back then and we'd just straight merc people with our premades I know people don't like premades, or rather don't like to face them but its not as entertaining as PvPing alone honestly. PvP now amounts to just whacking your opponent with 6 buttons on your bar vs the variety and options you had before.

    2. Server ticks - Server responsiveness is pretty big in PvP, rather in other MMOs everything is client side but when you're at the mercy of FFXIVs spaghetti netcode the delay is pretty gamebreaking in some of the matches when I was in ranked Feast because you wanna interrupt but because you didn't hit that stun/silence 0.2 secs early it didn't register. This leads to melee combat just feeling clunky as you think you're close like right on their butt but you're just a hair too far away and it feels really wrong, I've lost matches because of the netcode and even Frontlines because of the server ticks.

    3. Rewards - This is a pretty hot topic, while I'm glad that there is rewards in the Feast, the issue is when you have people who actively win trade on a daily and nothing is done for months even when people report them they still get away with it, it's honestly a slap in the face. For 2 seasons I was reporting a BLM who had a 0.5 sec Fire IV cast speed and his MCH buddy speed hacking but nothing was done for months until finally someone got evidence of the MCH going out of bounds and shooting where you can't target him.

The other issue is people win trading and telling GMS "hey we're only teaching our friends how to PvP in ranked so that they can get better" which isn't right either, we know PvP is dead but the fact people can get away with win trading and be on the leaderboards for seasons and seasons and nothing is done it devalues the rewards.

    4. No chat in Feast - I find this baffling still as they removed chat from the Feast but yet people can still whisper you after and be toxic when the match is over I don't get this disconnect where you have to spam "attack the healer!" when you can't even strategize in random ranked. It really hurt and is still hurting PvP I don't get this design choice and I'll never understand it, I ended up making my own LS n stuff with a Discord since I'd frequent PvPers but we'd get randos sometimes and you can't communicate with them effectively at all so it throws a wrench in plans.

All in all there's a huge disconnect between what SE wants for PvP and the playerbase, PvP used to be fun and although Shatter and Rival Wings were a good attempt to get people back but it doesn't excuse the fact that PvP is in the gutter as is other side projects which is a shame. I always wanna scratch that PvP itch in an MMO but I can't anymore WoWs PvP is the same it's a waiting game where you spend 20 mins mindlessly fighting till the healer goes oom, is this what people want in an MMO?

Anyways sorry for the long post this is just my experience since I played PvP and I made an honest attempt at it but bottom line its badly designed and needs a rework, especially chat and rewards for PvP.

No. More likely they phase out PVP. They locked Astragalos when Hidden Gorge released "in order to focus matchmaking on Hidden Gorge". Hidden Gorge has another mount tied to it. It's not a good sign if they have to go to such lengths to have new content populated after they made changes to PVP to make it more accessible.

I actually prefer that gear doesn't mean anything in pvp, twinks were annoying in WoW. Then you became one and just steamrolled unorganized teams, although certain level brackets were more twink sensitive than others. I think it's better this way, where gear isn't important.

I think the ability changes are nice for balance control reasons, if they want they could add a few more though. I mostly dislike the 1 v 1 v 1 thing, and some other side issues.

Also CTF was amazing and my favorite battle ground in WoW .

The current content “COULD” be fine if SE just altered settings for front lines honestly.

NO ONE in my cwls likes 72 man matches, like, literally nobody. In fact most of them log out once 72s start popping.
If they let us pick between 24/72 and, added new settings like 12 mans, and let “us” pick which FL # we wanted wed be fine
IMO just fully delete 72s but I guess the rare strangler will post at some point here after me whos a vocal minority stating otherwise lol

I do think gear mattering in pvp needs to return to form though, it shows what youre aiming for and goal is in the match.

Right now this “everyone is a robot and just like the other” mentality SE is using for pvp skills and gear is honestly quite dull dated and hell, almost like a drone company policy, its disgusting. Last time I checked gamers dont want to be like each other. (I mean, players with their cosmetics alone kinda proves that) That goes for skills and gear too SE

Other than that, pretty much everything Awful posted above. The dumbing down needs to be reversed, its a problem. Theres been 0 steps forward and hundreds of steps backward with SE treating pvp, just look at rival wings.

If the general consensus in this thread is no, then would you rather they remove PVP altogether or continue with whatever they're doing with it, considering there are probably people who do enjoy PVP as it is.
