They not only need more plots, but need to tweak the existing ones to allow ALL plots to be upgradeable Small-> Medium -> Large. 3 Mansions per ward is ridiculous.

I hope to get a house, shanty, cardbox one day in FFXIV. I have an apartment but that is about it, i do wish we could buy an extra floor for the apartment or even a balcony to look over the ward.
I have the money for a plot but they are never open and I can't sit there for 14 hours waiting for the timer to run out. Here is hoping that I can snag one after this emergency maintenance or in SB.
That's not a tweak, that's a complete redesign of each housing zone in addition to ensuring the stability of having to possibly load up 1200 pieces of outdoor furniture instead of the current 730. Unfortunately, the wards were never planned out or built for flexibility.
So housing as it is right now is mostly instanced. Apartments are instanced, FC rooms are instanced inside an instance, and house interiors are instanced.
Squeenix has said a few times they want to make wards the hub of player interaction, but they pretty much fail with every attempt at implementing it (remember that time they made mannequins and they flopped so incredibly hard because of how atrociously they work?).
But they could both make player housing areas work AND make housing instanced.
Keep one copy of each housing ward per server. Trim it down a bit so you have a few figurehead houses out, but have each ward contain GC vendors, fully stocked merchants (if you can buy them from a beast tribe vendor or merchant somewhere, make it available there, in the non instanced housing ward), a mb, summoning bell and traditional housing merchants.
Why keep houses there? Interact with the house, get a list of people with houses in that ward. Want to buy a house in that ward? Go for it, buy it right there.
Zone in to someone's instanced house: see a large plot of land. Expandable with gil. Look. We made a gilsink too! Decoration limot based on the size of the plot. In mist and pay enough? You have a beachfront house. In goblet and pay enough? You've got a hot spring oasis in your front yard. In Ishgard and pay enough? You've got a mountain to climb and interact with. Shiro? Some coves and a beach. Beds? Lots of trees and canal that just needs a gondola.
Inside? Same as the outside, only inside and similar to what we've got. But with more decorative space. And expandable. With gil.
Fills every need the dev team has said they want houses to be. And one they havent.
Ya like in real life...the hardest part is getting foot in the door. I was lucky i bought my plot when the server was empty and price lowered to 1.5 mill. Spent everything i had xD
Maybe some Medium/Large-only wards built specifically for it? A "Rich Neighborhood" so to speak? That's not a tweak, that's a complete redesign of each housing zone in addition to ensuring the stability of having to possibly load up 1200 pieces of outdoor furniture instead of the current 730. No they do not need more timers, but this person def needed to be reported for trolling and harassment. That is just cruddy.

Honestly, I wish they'd just remove the timers altogether. It punishes people who are trying to get an honest house for the first time more than it stops any resellers. People still sell houses with absolutely no issue. And people who flip houses might be more likely to use bots to get a house in the first place, placing those honest people at yet another disadvantage.
Terrible system imo. I think one house per server was enough to combat the issue, personally.

It is on those servers where there are enough houses for the players who want a house. It's not on the worlds where player population is far greater than the number of houses available.Honestly, I wish they'd just remove the timers altogether. If SE was able to expand wards dynamically on a per server basis, the problem would partially disappear since they could just add another ward to a specific server when the number of houses available reaches some minimum amount. It still wouldn't address the demand for more medium and large houses, though.
I'm genuinely hoping that they'll be introducing a better instanced housing system next expansion and not just a new district that will operate the way wards currently do. We'll have to wait and see what they have planned.
Definitely need to do something about the timers camped one for 10 hours yesterday to lose it due to needing toilet >_> then camped next one for 4 hours till decided had enough needed sleep woke up to see it gone now at a 3rd house waiting for maintainence yet due to how PS4 version is updated i most likely lose this one because copying files takes forever dammit SE giving unfair advantage to PC players >_>
