    PS3 gen.
Sony " Can we be friend? I noticed you have a larger playerbase.
Soft " LMAO get outta here loser. Why would we play with losers like you.
    PS4 gen.
Soft" umm remember when you asked to play with us?
Sony" Sorry.. we can't hear you under all this money and fans....
There's a whole bunch of truths in that post of yours. That whole hubris thing from the big 3 console makers is cyclical. Each time one of them starts to dominate a console generation, they slowly stop being pro consumers. Seemingly never learning from their past experiences.

Oh yeah definitely, we can't know for sure where this generation will lead. There's an inkling of it happening again with Sony being less than consumer friendly in their decisions and Microsoft doing some genuinely good things for its player in the hope of gaining some ground when the new systems launch. But yeah you're right we can't be certain where it's going yet.

It is quite a fascinating phenomenon though. The success of the PS2 lead to the PS3 and its giant enemy crab and a 600$ launch tag with barely any games that was a nightmare to develop for. The success of the SNES lead to the N64 and Nintendo's insistence that devs were gonna be fine with using cartridges still. Then the Wii lead to the Wii U, a system I love but one Nintendo felt would sell on it's name alone despite terrible marketing. Xbox 360 lead to Xbone and it's thankfully discarded, ridiculous anti-consumers launch policies etc. Every time, they think that their brand is too big to fail.

And with that I realize that I totally derailed this thread, apologies to the OP! Carry on :P

You're not wrong, I noticed people tend to choose a side and I'm no different, I used to defend Sony but I stopped and I only did it cause I'm a fan. It happens. - hugs PS4 pro- But yeah I get the sales side of it, none of them want to give their rival a leg up. Understandable, but Sony seems like it's making the SAME mistakes that lead to the PS3 crappo start. Hopefully SE makes a harder case to making them drop the wall and play nice with XIV, I'd love to inspect a player and see an Xbox tag like I do when I see my fellow PSNers ingame. Pluss more people. With Fornite being shared with Nintendo and Mircosoft along with being able to use Live on the Switch we'll see if Sony lets up and joins the party.

Indeed, people picking a "side" is rather common. I guess it's our ancestral tribal instincts kicking in. There's nothing fundamentally wrong with it. It becomes problematic when folks defend brands or products at the detriment of their own interests. For example, I'm sure that some people were defending the system wide, always on DRM features the Xbox One was supposed to launch with. Even though it was entirely anti-consumers. Those people were not idiots, they knew it was terrible, but brand loyalty made them disregard their own interests.

You're absolutely right, we the players would benefit greatly from a more open interconnectivity between systems. Whether it be with FFXIV or any other game that has online components. More people is always beneficial.
