I know what you're saying. But what I'm saying is that those restrictions do not exist with the other games. Those restrictions only exist on the PS4. For example, Rocket League on PS4 was/is the only platform that couldn't play with other consoles because Sony didn't want them. Sony being extremely close minded when it comes to crossplay is common knowledge by now. So I'm asking you, what is more likely? Microsoft refusing to let other consoles mingle with theirs on FFXIV when they're fine doing just that with every other games, or Sony actually being the ones blocking the whole thing like they've done with every other games?

OK, but that wasn't the point I was making. The point is microsoft also requires Xbox only servers, in addition to crossplay functionality. You can't have crossplay on Xbox without Xbox only servers. What sony is or isn't saying doesn't matter in this case, because SE will not put the game on a system that requires its own servers. It's all or nothing.

They DON'T have their own servers! There's a toggle in the options menu to search for other players on the same ecosystem. A toggle option that is present on every version of those games accepting crossplay with other consoles. That toggle is on the switch, on mobile etc. It's up to the devs. None of those games have separate "Xbox Live" servers. Pretty sure that Microsoft's own game, Minecraft, doesn't even have that toggle at all.

Because those games are peer to peer, but a matchmaking server is still a server. The game communicates with players somehow. No mmos have cross platform functionality other than xiv, and the other MMOs have separate servers per platform. XIV does not.

And again, the game let's you choose to play with only Xbox players. You can't do that in xiv.

Minecraft Realms. Dedicated Minecraft servers run by Microsoft. Any platform can log on those with no restrictions. Except PS4. Because they refuse to have other console in their ecosystem. I know this is irrelevant to a certain extent. I'm not saying that your facts are wrong. What I'm saying is that Microsoft has demonstrably shown that they have no issues allowing other systems connecting to theirs without any restrictions. I'm saying that logically based on information we have now, if a company between Microsoft and Sony is responsible for locking xbox players out of FFXIV, it's Sony. They have done it several times with other games and I feel like that should qualify as a pretty good indication of where they stand with FFXIV. Never mind the Square PR talk. Several other developers have gone on record saying that Sony was blocking cross console connectivity for their respective games.

Either way, I don't even know why I'm debating any of this, I play on PC lol

It's that toggle option that is holding up the negotiations, it's a feature that microsoft has promised their live subscribers (as a parental control feature?), and if SE were to abide by that, they'd have to code into the game the option for xbox players that have that toggled, to basically have their own exclusive servers (instances) that would exclude ps4 and pc players and that would also only find other xbox players when queued for DF.

SE isn't going to go through all that hassle just to port XIV over to xbox. I'm sure negotiations would go rather well if microsoft would drop the xbox live requirements and option for xbox players to only play with other xbox players. If SE could get Sony to drop PS+ requirements for XIV, don't understand why Microsoft won't budge.

Microsoft won't budge because the whole thing is PR BS. That toggle is implemented at the discretion of the dev. Without that toggle, Fortnite would still be crossplay on Xbox for example. Microsoft never promised their subscriber any of that. Why would they? If it's not a FPS, no player cares whether they play against PC or other consoles. Bottom line is who cares. If it launches on Xbox, good for anyone interested, if not then I won't lose any sleep over it. I do own a Xbone, but I'd much rather play an MMO on PC.
