Sadly the tank didn't stand in the light to reduce damage,.The room before you fight the first boss where alot of mobs are standing, was as far as we got. Tank died there and just left without a wordI mean, that's what I'm trying to establish. You might want to overshoot the crystal veil spot when tanking to ensure a ranged mob behaves and follows properly, but then you doubleback to the purple zone. Everyone goes 'nanas with AoE and it's happy fun time... so a tank wanting to pull everything would surely, surely know that? Usually. Regardless, leaving after death is a bit silly.
And yeah, Holying the Dorkhold is a thing of beauty.




Yep, that makes absolute sense, but it's nice to get it clarified so the other horror story scenarios I came up with can get tucked safely away. I wonder if your tank was either a) angry they didn't get healed through everything, or b) genuinely so embarrassed they could only quit and take themselves to a corner for the rest of the day, but I suppose we'll never know!

The fight has a total of 10 tank busters, all of them affecting both the MT and OT. In addition, a CD is really nice to have up during Hello World (at least in my group's strat).
Add to that, tanks are not exempt from any mechanics affecting the party, unlike some other fights. It really is a tank-heavy fight, and one I rather enjoy. :P

Today I learned that with sufficient DPS, the desert maze part in the fight with Halicarnassus can be skipped. Never saw that happen before. Probably because it's also the first time I've seen that nobody got frogged.
I have done Aurum Vale more times than I care to count. It's a pretty ease dungeon if everyone just follows the tanks lead. With that in mind at sounds like those DPS have problems understanding their roles. I have had that several times in that dungeon alone.Ok leveling all my jobs to 50 really makes me appreciate players who know the lower level dungeons.
So I qued up for "Yay!!!" Aurum Vale and I'm healing as AST....hmmm.....Tank decides im gonna go the western side of map and do little pulls as possible which ok with me. Both DPS's decide otherwise and run around pulling for the tank we wipe....
And again, this happens tank speaks up and says simply "STOP PULLING MOB!" DPS's don't listen (btw it was MNK and SAM as dps Tank was DRK), we wipe.
Third try on the first area in AURUM F___ING VALE ok! Tank manages to get to the first boss dps decide lets bring all the remaining mobs into the fight guess what happened? RIP WIPED DEAD DESTROYED....etc
Tank leaves duty and then I couldn't believe the dps started talking smack about the tank being weak and not knowing there job. I decided to stick around for next tank.
We wait about 3 minutes or so and we get a PLD. Almost the exact same thing happens. Except the tank went off on the dps it was awesome I cannot display exactly what he/she said but it was epic. We wipe three more times, yes that's right at total of 6 wipes in the first area of AURUM F____ING VALE. Before time expired the dps voted to kick the tank...lmao....wow...
I re-qued after time expired went with almost all mentors and cleared without wipe or even one player dying in like less then 20 minutes.
One time I had a Bard on my team that kept pulling things that weren't necessary. We wiped a few times due to what they were pulling. I asked them kindly to stop pulling and let me lead as I new what the healer was capable of (I main healer and used to heal Aurum Vale all the time). Bard told me to tank better than and the my "Positioning is iffy at best". I don't usually lose patience quickly, but I wasn't in the mood for BS. I told them "Believe what you want, but you will let me lead as that is my role." Next thing I know the other DPS and healer started yelling at him too for voting to dismiss me. It failed of course and he left. I still don't get what he meant by my "Positioning" as being iffy as I was holding everything away from the group, so I'm assuming he just wanted to be jerk and it backfired on him.




This reminds me of a Sohm Al (that dgn with the drakespur poisoning plants) I was tanking with my alt with 1 mnk, 1 brd and healer. One the second part of the map where you start, where there's two pack of plants, I tag the first and second pack but not third. I get this:I have done Aurum Vale more times than I care to count. So anyone who's played this dgn knows each plant monster casts its circled telegraph attacks in somewhat quick successions and they don't do it in synchronization to say I got ample space to go left or right and then back to my original position. MNK ends the convo by telling me that I don't get it and let's drop it, to which I silently agree with the latter. We say nothing to each other from start to finish and I just hightail it as soon as the exit portal opens.
I get melee dps positionals are important obviously, as I play one myself consistently more than before but I'm not gonna give flak to my tank when he's mass pulling or being thrown telegraphs from every angle at 2 second intervals /facepalm
The irony in this is that I do far less moving, hell I even take some aoes at endgame dgns just because I have more skill options to mitigate dmg and I just overall survive better than 50/60 dgns (which is why I'm always confused up to this day why experts are far more easier to complete than 50/60 roulette and below).

Healing DRK is literally... the same since ShB. The reason why people think it's a meme to heal nowadays because DRK receives very little to no buff to their sustainability vs 3 other tanks getting something useful. If you're capable of healing DRK back in ShB (or any tanks), then you'll heal EW DRK just fine.

for 10 - Heavy tank mechs yeah but if anyone messes anything up its gets ugly quick
For 11 - Its pretty heavy on everyone (thats the point I was trying to make sorry if it didnt come off like that) especially the F*** the party shoot lasers everywhere oh-you-thought-you-were-done-with-panto2 part lol.
For 12 - for M/F dps really just hit the boss and move out of AOE
For Final12 - Oh-is-that-ANOTHER-tank-buster-great-im-out-of-cooldowns-hope-this-works-out pretty much sums up my opinion of the fight.
Point was that I wasnt trying to bash your opinion, Just wanted to give you mine as a tank main.
I can see where you're coming from tho since you're more expert on tanking than I do by a huge margin
I just feel a little salty towards this raid tier in particular and how it's designed overall
Note on o12s tho:You have no idea how many people I met who just won't do numbers right and the sad thing is,some pfs cant even recognize who did it right or wrong and even when I did it right and people were dying in the middle of the arena I still got kicked alongside the Paladin on that day

Positionals go out the window once you are dealing with multiple mobs cuz the priorities there shift to both DPSes using their AoEs and applying dots if they have them while the healer keep the tank alive plus the occasional DPS and the tank avoiding aoes when they need to.
By that point monk has both Howling Fist and Rock Cutter,with the first being a 30 to 40 seconds cooldown skill (tho correct me if im wrong my head is a little fuzzy today )and the second being an OGCD skill that u can do at the end of your rotation
If the monk is using neither of those when mobs come around then they have no right to demand you adjust for their positionals on normal mobs when positionals only mattering on bosses

Howling's a 60 second CD (I remember this because it always lines up with Internal, but not Riddle), and Rock Breaker's a GCD, not OGCD, although that's probably just a typo.
But yeah, in large pulls positionals go out the window. Sure, landing the occasional flank or rear *helps* but not nearly as much as consistent Rock Breaker. 20 potency positional vs 130 extra potency per mob... isn't even a contest.
