It's silly stuff like that really stick out in the end. That make many of us that played FFXI so fondly remember certain cutscenes. Could we ever forget Doctor Shantotto? Would she even let us?
While I don't disagree with you there, levquests are a bad example to go about "Spicing up" mainly due to the fact they are created to be quick repeatable "Quests" to gain exp from.

If anything they should spice up the side-quests you pick up in town, not even all of them just a handfull in each city with good animation is enough.

I know the guild quests are fun, like the carpentry one was actually pretty humorous, however that's only a handful of quests, all of the sidequests are boring and require too much walking.

(by server system i mean w/e the devs do their coding on)

The game needs everything. Anytime I think "why don't they(dev) add..." I can simply answer my own question w/ the games server system.

I'm giving the devs the benefit of the doubt because the only other explanation is that they are clueless, which I'm sure they are not. We will be on this server system until 2.0, until then, don't expect anything other then a reskin of what we already do now. Those 2 new dungeons in 1.21? They aren't going to be some unique zone w/ completely godlike atmospheric music. They're just gonna be DZM/TR w/ diff boss fights, same server latency, same basic concepts.

I hope to God the Legatus battle has some decent lore chain quest to go along w/ it... Seeing as how I haven't done my r46(?) mission in over 14 months. Would be cool if the JSA gear quests didn't bore me to death either. Though for some reason I feel like the quests are going to be something like "Go to Cassieopea Hollow, touch ??? w/ [Key Item], high lvl NM pops, we slay it, get [Key Item], return n get our JSA gear." If I can solo it ZOMGLOLOL... Whatever... But there aint gon b naw Dynamis, Sky, Sea, ZM/COP/TAOU(examples obvi) chain missions til 2.0... And even then. Personally I don't believe 2.0 is gonna start us off w/ a basket full of content, however, this is an opportunity for SE to surprise me.

What we get w/ every patch is the cap of what they can deliver in the time provided. Doesn't seem like a lot does it? I agree. And I blame the server for it.

However, if it isn't the server, n the only one to blame is the devs, plz correct me!!1

What happend is that times have change and SE is lagging behind the times and is playing major catch up. Version 2.0 is going to try to make leveling up more through questing (more like Rift/Wow ect) but they are way behind on it. SE makes a mistake thinking people are still ok with simply grinding all the way to 50 without much context to it. They know they are wrong and are woring on it. I think most people should just take a break when your bored and give the game a new shot in about a year when 2.0 is out. If i was not in a great LS with cool friends I would not keep playing this once they charge thats for sure.

but with mmo's in the end your still grinding xp there just giving you a direction to go in.

I just think the level of epicness in the story in XIV compared to XI is lacking, in XI the cutscenes were badass
not vanilla ffxi missions there about the same as ffxiv not much going on till you hit the zilart missions and that was an expansion.

Yes well, DIRECTION is what people need. Personally I love quest chain levelling. This is a concept SE should have known was part of the modern mmorpg. Anyone with a brain who hasn't played only XI knows this. You cannot simply login with a weapon after a cutscene, do onr quest, and thrust players out into the world. To do what exactly? Make their own adventure? I'll let you in on a little secret--that sounds really appealing on paper or as an advertising scheme, but majority players do not want that. They want to be told where to go. They want to follow a road to a quest hub, do 10 quests to levelup, to unlock new quests, the last of which sends then ahead to the next quest hub. Sure XIV has quests, but they are scattered with zero direction. The whole "quest design" of this game has you boomeranging back to town everytime. It's like you're tethered to cities and it sucks. People want to move forward, not in circles.

Trust me, that is what players want. More theme park, less sandbox. Six Flags is way more fun than the local park, right? After playing so many mmos over the past 10 years, I can confidently say all these things. Of course, there's need to be some light at the end of that road and so end game is important. However, getting there is also important and is the reason why these open world, mob-grinding, lack-of-quest models do not survive in the current mmo world.

Hopefully they have realized this and will fix it. A lot transparency will be needed too and that's something they're improving on, but are still light years behind the competition with.

I'm all for more story content. I love ffxi storylines, and a bit part of why I loved ffxi was the grinding with group mates. I maybe the minority but with so many pointless questing type games, I am happy SE has still stuck somewhat to the route of grouping for xp. I don't care for quest, I don't need quest to tell me what to do. The base majority doesn't even read quest when they do them. They look at the reward, what needs to be killed, what needs to be collected and they do it. So would you be happy if SE put in a bunch of quest that were pretty much..

"Hello Adventurer! Damn Crabs are taking over the local species of Birdonxians,. The Crabs have a huge hunger for the Birdonxians Eggs, which we live on as a part of our normal diet. Please, get a group of fellow Adventurers and go kill 450 of these evil Crabs, and while your at it, bring back some of the Birdonxians Eggs that they clutch under there undershell. When you done, please run these Eggs to the three capitals, and talk to there respective lead culinarians! Do this and I'll reward you this nifty armor you will replace in a couple level, and 7000 xp!!!"

Personally, for me, it wasn't knowing that I would be owned it was just the fact of not knowing in general what was going to happen. There were so many quests, and so much interactivity I never knew what was really going on. Sometimes I may say to myself 'oh yea, I remember this' other times I'm pretty much in the dark watching a CS. Especially funny timing when I'm rushing to an event and a random NPC draws me into a CS.

Oh dear do I stick my neck out before I'm off for Christmas fun? why not only live once.

Did touch on something I wanted to discuss, and that being the quest structure. I was discussing this with friend who works for a game company. And the subject about the way quests are laid out in other MMOs they are or seem to be designed with progress of the player, each area is tailored to suit the player current level and once the player is done and is ready to move on there will be another set of quests ready for him/her in the next area.

Having the sweeping generalizations and Hyperbole aside on my behalf it does make you think about the level design aspects of the game and I hope this will be thought on if they do implement more quests.

I would like to elaborate a lot more but I off to my folks merry Xmas!
