if a game needs all this after it's been released then there is a problem. to charge money for the game in it's current state is wrong. only given bare bone content til 2.0 is wrong. if this game had not been put out by SE it would have been offlined.

What this means is, they'll no longer be overhauling the game and can focus on adding content, which they have quite a bit planned that won't be introduced until the foundation is fixed, i.e switched over to new client and servers. They're adding the content they can add between now and then but we won't be seeing patches dedicated to content versus patches dedicated to fixing the game.

3ish years, if you count actual production then the fact the game is going through an overhaul.

Anyone with a brain who hasn't played only XI knows this. You cannot simply login with a weapon after a cutscene, do onr quest, and thrust players out into the world. To do what exactly? Make their own adventure? I'll let you in on a little secret--that sounds really appealing on paper or as an advertising scheme, but majority players do not want that. They want to be told where to go. They want to follow a road to a quest hub, do 10 quests to levelup, to unlock new quests, the last of which sends then ahead to the next quest hub. Sure XIV has quests, but they are scattered with zero direction. The whole "quest design" of this game has you boomeranging back to town everytime. It's like you're tethered to cities and it sucks. People want to move forward, not in circles.

Trust me, that is what players want. More theme park, less sandbox. Six Flags is way more fun than the local park, right? After playing so many mmos over the past 10 years, I can confidently say all these things. Of course, there's need to be some light at the end of that road and so end game is important. However, getting there is also important and is the reason why these open world, mob-grinding, lack-of-quest models do not survive in the current mmo world.

Hopefully they have realized this and will fix it. A lot transparency will be needed too and that's something they're improving on, but are still light years behind the competition with.
I disagree because and I know I am not the only one. I personally like to do things and go places when, where and how I want. I dont need quest based leveling, I want to grind when I want and do other things when I want. I want to explore on my own when I want. Seriously why do you need some one to give you or other players direction? Give me a big world let me explore it and do other things when, where and how I choose to. I dont need direction, there is no need in this. Maybe some people need their hands held all the way to level 50 or what not but I dont, and I am sure not everyone wants that.

I do enjoy quest leveling up i do but don't get me wrong you also only have one class in other mmos, and questing based games are tailored to only having one job to get you to max.

As with most (all?) other MMORPGs, there is always the ability to simply grind and explore and not even bother with quests.
What do quest bring to the table that D.I.Y. gaming does not? History, lore, a broader view of the environment and its inhabitants.
It's not always about direction. It's not always about "quest-based-leveling".

How I see leves these days is nothing more than a variation of the field manuals from ffxi.

On that note. Why do ppl keep referring to leves? They arent quests and you can choose not to touch them at all if you dont like them. Yoshi said he was getting away from these instead of having them be the basis of the game as they were originally intended. He has also made comments about content coming in a more steady stream after the game was tweaked to run as it should and he even made a brief reference to an expansion that will be released after v2 (which im assuming will be within the later half of the first year after v2 at least). Ppls need to read and listen more closely to what is being said before they post rather than just skim over things.

This is the biggest advantage and biggest burden FFXIV has. All the empathesis on leveling multiple classes in FFXIV means we really need an insane amount of content, or else we will get bored.

I for one don't mind the whole guildleve system. With all the chnages they've made to the game it's a lot more fun. You get XP and gil. By doing them and behests it's easy for one to get to cap in time. What gets to me is there no reward for the grinding.

I mean if I grind to 10 and there's x number of quests for me that makes it worth it. Knowing that once I get to this level I get a good amount of content before I have to grind again. Last time I checked there were only about 189 sidequests in game. That's all there is in a game that's been out for a whole year. I don't want to push SE and have them release bad quests.

I want them to release quests with great stories and CSs like XI. As well as little quests too. Even if they only added 30 quests a month. That's only coming up with 1 quest a day. I don't think that will be hard for a company that's proven themselves master story tellers.

I want this game to become great. I know it can. If SE and us players work together it can be done.
