While it's true that the 6+ million sales of FFXIII might not necessarily be indicative of its quality, it has an aggregate score on Metacritic(which I'm usually loathe to cite) of around 85%, and even if only half of the people that bought it actually enjoyed it, that's still around 3 million people who enjoyed the game immensely(and as a guy who's gone through it 3 times over the course of its release year, I proudly count myself as one of those).

Although I can't really defend the game as much as say FFXII, since it had a pretty goofy development cycle and a lot of misdirection, I feel that it had a pretty interesting group of flawed characters that grew as the story progressed, beautiful visual and audio atmosphere(Hamauzu is brilliant), and a pretty interesting take on the ATB system.

    "It's too linear!"

What were you doing in those towns in other FF games anyway other than buying gear and waiting for the next storyline
"hitbox" to trigger? News flash: Most if not all entries in the series(and JRPGs in general) are linear as all hell.

    "Hope was a whiny bitch!"

I'd personally hate to meet the deranged psychopath who saw his mother die in front of him while having to suffer through the banal bullshit of the nonchalant asshole who's pretty much responsible, while being branded a freak of nature and condemned by all mankind just because he was at the wrong place at the wrong time and not break a sweat.

I loved 13. It was a refreshing turn in the series, but I can see why people didn't like it. I'd like SE to develop an FF title that takes place in much older times. Something that doesn't come off feeling cold, dim, and in the distant future. Perhaps something with a little more heart.

The game, characters, and setting that comes to mind is Final Fantasy 9. I know it's often overlooked, but it's my personal favorite out of the main series and I'd love for them to catch that kind of magic in their next title.

He was whinny. What is up with those crazy long monologues that all the characters did in FFXIII. People that liked FFXIII are immune to cheesy drama. The story was too cheesy, I don't think I can handle more cheese that. The gameplay was great, graphics were great, getting tired of the unsymmetrical look and belt and zippers on the characters but I guess character design passes, the music was okay, but the story was cheesy beyond measure! NEVER USE THE WRITERS THAT DID FF13 FOR ANY FINAL FANTASY GAME AGAIN SQUARE-ENIX!

If more soap operas had more hot soldier ladies with gunblades and magic I'd totally watch 'em.

Why does hot girls, gunblades, and soppy attitudes make everything better? FF13, Kingdom Hearts, Dissidia, 3rd birthday, FF7:AC, FF7C, FF:CC, FF Type-0 have all have one thing in common. They all try too hard to be cool.

If you don't know why cute girls make everything better, then I don't know what to tell ya.
