well murugan looks like we will both be looking for the same type of server. i'm just as likely to get online at 3am as i am 8pm so i love being on a global server. i'm glad when i get on at 3am and have people to play with. it may be jp players and i have trouble conversing with them, but that doesn't stop me from joining their party or enjoying the time i spend with them.

the people that go to the language specific servers will have fun trying to find a party when it isn't peak hours because there's not different cultures on different time zones with them.

LMAO how ignorant can one person be.. /sigh

Don't be fooled, the JP players have been asking for language specific servers for a long time.

This isn't about racism, its about playing with people who speak your own language and are in a similar timezone.

I really hope a moderator comes in here and deletes your posts because you have turned a good thread into a S***fest.

While i can see strong arguements for and against regional servers

one thing i must point out

NO SERVER CURRENTLY EXISTING SHOULD BE MADE TO BE ONE

why? well for starters cuz we are already in them with the understanding they are all global, so why turn any of them regional?

no, thatl be what they need to do when they open new servers in the future

for now, they should give us the option to go to severs, maybe hint to us what the population mainly consists of, and let it be that

but personaly i think they should just merge us and be done with it and not give anyone a choice as to where so that people dont get into huge arguements as to whats what and who goes where

idc for regional/global servers anymore, i just want to see other ppl wanting to do stuff together.
i'm sitting here for hours trying to get some moggle/ifrit/SH action going on.
but besides AFK/bots/LS only raiders, there is noone to do stuff together.this is wrong in so many levels for an MMO.
i'm not even calling this game an MMO anymore.

It is racist to insist that people have to be separated, or would be unarguably better off separated, because they speak different languages, even when it has been demonstrated that people can manage just fine through the language barrier. It represents an unwillingness to interact with others unlike you, and it demonstrates a pretty clear aversion to people who clash culturally with you.

Yes, I'm afraid promoting segregation and racism are quite interrelated.
Sure, I can manage to play a video game with people who don't speak English, but it makes it more difficult. I don't like playing on PST servers either because I live in DC. I guess I hate all people on the westcoast.

It has nothing to do with being a racist. It has everything to do with communication. What confluence of arrogant douchebaggery is inside of you that makes you tell someone you've never met that they're a racist because they want regional servers in a video game?

There's no way they're going to change current servers to regional ones. It's already official that we will have lower populated servers emptied by having the players there chose one of the higher populated servers to migrate to. Common sense dictates that those emptied servers will be re-introduced as regional servers for those who want such an experience.

However, imposing regional standards to existent global servers would be completely illogical and very counter-productive. That much is obvious.

    @Murugan:

The whole racism argument you're trying to pull is silly and completely uncalled for. Regional servers aren't for segregation. It completely revolves around communication and time zones.

If your on a regional server then you will have lots of people to play with during your prime time, and will be able to communicate with everyone. These advantages cannot be ignored.

However there are advantages of global servers where you get to meet people from all over the world and perhaps even practice foreign languages you may be picking up, and also you get people to play with no matter what time of the day you log in.

That's why ideally it's best to have both, and for players to chose how they wish to experience their MMO. If you notice, in those advantages above I listed nothing pertaining to race. That's because this doesn't have to have anything to do with race.

It's almost 2012. There's no place for this level of ignorance.

well, reading thru the latest posts, following the discussion about regional/global servers.
if i might join this discussion, i would like to add something.
the times an english party actually takes an JP with them is 100 times more common then a JP party taking a EN player with them.

just today i was rejected by a whole 5 JP parties.there are those that let me in, of course, but most of them just want to play with JP players only.and for me being on gysahl (one of the bigger JP pop servers) this is a very bad deal.

you see, i love to play with everyone, as long i get to play i don't care.
but if ppl want regional servers they should have them.

i rather have those that want to play with players that speak the same language move to an regional server, instead of being bound to an global server.

just right now there is a JP player looking for some jobs i could offer to him for the moggle fight (and i know various strats for the fight, so the language barrier shouldn't matter at all) but he rather waits another hour to get the classes filled instead of inviting me.

i'm not happy with this crap.

There is no reason that existing players should have to be made to choose a new server due to making their server designated for a different region.

If people want to be segregated they should do it themselves, not force it on other people. Moving servers in a persistent online world is a potential hardship, it should not be forced on people who are fine with global servers because some people don't like playing on the same servers as Japanese players (or whatever group of people/"language" it might be).

The people who found themselves "suddenly in the wrong server for their region" would be unfairly put at a disadvantage.

I already chose when I bought the game. It was to be on a global server. If you don't like the idea of playing with people who may speak other languages you can go to your own server and not potentially force me off mine.

There is a great ocean of difference between opening region based servers and allowing those with an issue to move to them, and segregating the existing population off of their servers away from their friends, customers, linkshells, and community they have been playing with for over a year.

One is saying "If you don't like playing with Japanese players (or whichever people they don't want to play with) you can go to this new server."

The other is saying "I'm sorry but your server is now a Japanese server (or whichever it happens to be designated) if you aren't Japanese you are on the wrong server".
