It's also particularly ironic given how desperate some of the posters within this very thread are in regards to wanting Viera men to be as creepily submissive as possible. Though that's a completely different kettle of fish and thankfully a heavily contested point.

How is it worded with any agenda? I mean...the way the races were presented seemed pretty lockstep with the whole woman=pretty and sexy and man=rough and tough. I don't think it's political or controversial to say that, because that's how they were presented. I mean...the Viera literally giggled in their video. It's not about sexism or whatever. It's about tired old tropes that add nothing new to the medium. Either way, I think most people signing it don't care about the whole "agenda."

I think they just want to play one of the two races as the gender that wasn't created for them. I'm part of this group myself. Finally, I love how you phrased this: "as creepily submissive as possible." As if wanting a more demure male character is a bad thing. More so, that wasn't even the majority.

I'm sure they'll rely more firmly on played % for female Viera once they release than assertions about what manner of "trope" it is.

I'm sure if you showed the more controversial examples of the art in question to regular people out on the streets, they'd have a similar amount of disdain and wariness.

Whereas with these Change petitions, literally anyone can sign them and more than once if they're clever about it. It is pretty wise to discount a poll where the information collection methods being used are suspect, especially when the company has the means to undertake its own research if necessary, and not just rely on the off chance that some of the signatures are from potential new players. They already hold data for cross-marketing purposes, for approaching potentially interested players in a game, assuming there's the need to.

They're already listening to us in terms of reviewing the decision to gender-lock. Delivering a petition to them that can be signed by just about anyone has zero weight. My point in bringing up the poll is that it is providing supplementary info, but as a gauge of actual interest in removing the gender lock, the OF is better for this and I would certainly recommend that they conduct their own polling if they feel the need.
Couldn't people also sign an official petition more than once in similarly clever ways like with the Change one? You raise good points, and I do think a company official poll is more accurate, but again, I think it can still be productive to look into the Change petition. They can add that to their research, maybe decide whether or not it really is worth it. 5K is a big number, and it's growing. I still think it would be worth it to at least take that into account.

I was also pretty happy when Yoshi said they'd review feedback. I do hope that they eventually let us know what's going on. I think it would be cool if they did provide a poll and make it as easy as possible for as many players to answer as possible.

No, they can basically generate a unique link for the survey that expires once it is completed. Lots of companies do this, and if you click it again it will simply say something to the effect that the survey has already been taken. Just bear in mind the number of likes on the OF post is already an indicator of how high demand is to remove the gender-lock. There was a decent post in this thread about it several pages ago. We've already received a response on that front, anyway. My point is that the petition doesn't provide them any data that is reliable and it's not asking for anything over and above the OP here. So taken together, it's a waste of time. You're better off filling in the poll in my signature with the caveat that it has a similar reliability issue - at the least though it provides some more granular feedback on the gender lock.

You can do that with any controversial fanart though. This is not a good argument.

Then let's pray. Dear SE, gods of the FF multiverse, please give us a poll or an official letter or both so that we may have some solid yes or no information and cease arguing amongst ourselves. Amen.

PS (I know I'm totally guilty of arguing with people. It's just so...riveting...)

It's an excellent argument when accounting for what some are trying to slip through the filters. It'd reflect rather badly on the game if implemented.

vieras are a sole female race, and for the sake of lore and how i dont want to see more male furry things walking around that makes me cringe, i'll say no

But those depictions aren't close to what most people want. Why do you keep bringing that up? You're literally the only one I see talking about it anymore. And don't even bring up the more recent pieces of art because those are NOT at all what you keep saying they are. Sweet Azeyma I need to get off the internet.
