I've been saying something similar in other threads and it's either ignored or people want to dispute you. I'll never understand the "we want it now!" mentality that people have.I'm seeing all sorts of stuff about "gender lock" on the two new races, as if SE is purposefully withholding content from us, and that female Hrothgar and male Viera exist as playable races, but are "locked" from us.
The thing is, making another gender of an existing race is the same amount of work as making a single gender of a new race. You can't just slap boobs on a hrothgar and call it female, you have to make an entirely new model, and you have to match existing gear to it, you have to make all the new customization options, and the list of things just goes on.
The fact is, it takes the same amount of manpower and effort to make a single race with two genders as it does to make two races with a single gender.
They did not have the manpower to make two races with two genders. They've told us this, and they've said that because they wanted to include hrothgar, a concession had to be made.
Yes, I do believe the other genders should be created. But no, I don't believe there's any locking, malice, personal attacks on sexuality, or anything of that nature that I've seen in the general hubbub that is these forums.
We got a nice thing. We had to lose another nice thing to get it. I'd say have patience, and that the extra genders will come eventually.
So they could have made one race with two genders instead. That would have caused little complaint, especially since nobody was expecting the Hrothgar anyway.
Actually, if you look at the model of Hrothgar they have ordinary toes with no claws, so if he wore different shoes, they'd look the same.
So they basically took the hunched look from male miqotes run, took miqotes tail, and put them on a roegaedyn, and put a Lion head on it. So the new stuff would just be the head and fur.

But, but peoples political agenda's and what ever other excuse they can come up with will be null and void if they think with logic! For some reason, people can't leave real world issues out of a fantasy game ... *shrug*

Someone that wants to play Viera will also be forced to play a female character. That is what is otherwise known as genderlock.
This isn't complicated stuff, and this is coming from someone that doesn't really give two shites about the genderlock but can still fully recognize that it exists.
What's the point of being pedantic over the term genderlock?
Which is defeated by the fact that one choosing to play as Viera will already know that there's only female available to it. Why would you choose to play as them and then complain you're being forced?
You mean restraining classes to certain genders? Because that's what genderlock is.
Ofc it's not. It's people finding means to bring their grievances to the forefront as much as possible. Such as claiming genderlock when there is none, knowing that the media will lap it up greedily and make an even bigger storm.
True genderlock is indeed a lazy practice and nothing like this. But hey, whatever forces the devs hand, even if it goes against their budget or artistic vision, right?
This thread is dumb. Add me to the screencap.
