It did failed. They gave up the dlc, the game sold for crap. Even the mobile game made more money than it. They make ad for it everywhere to try to sell the thing, even make weird coop event to make money. The ad for the cup ramen dlc was epic in all the wrong way.
My local game store don't even want to buy it back for more than 5€.
That's not what I call successfull.

There has been literally zero information given out about FF16.

    So nobody knows a thing.

More than likely it will be a single player game and not an mmo.

It did not fail. Your definition of failure and success is clearly subjective. Just because you didn't enjoy the game and what it had to offer does not mean it failed. According to an article in 2018 it had sold 8.1 million copies. And i'm sure the number has gone up since. Slowly, but i'm sure it has. That being said, its been stated that Square has viewed FF15 to be a success.

Also the game came out in 2016. Its not uncommon for a game shop to take a game that old for 5 bucks. So that argument you are trying to make is absolutely terrible. Also just because they cancelled the DLC doesn't mean the game was a failure. Its rare for a single player rpg to get all the love it got. Years after it came out it was still getting new content. Tell me any other single player RPG that kept getting new content years after it was released.

Also a cash cow mobile game does not equal a final fantasy game. Most mobile games today make way more money than triple A games. Do you deem any game that gets beat by a mobile game in money generated a failure?

Your salt is obviously blinding you.

I'm not sure what reality you are getting your information from, but it's not this one. FF15 is the 3rd best selling FF game behind 7 and 10. It did extremely well and is most certainly very successful any way you look at it.

Maybe you're referring to them cancelling the DLC? That's because they are funneling money into another project and they didn't think it was worth funneling money into both.

I don't think you can establish a trend based on two points. You're also not taking into account the years between game releases (FFXI was 2002, XIV was 2010 originally, so that means we should already be a year into the next MMO) or, more importantly, playerbase or technical leaps.

Development of new mainline FF games has slowed down since the 80s and 90s so I don't think anyone can call which one is going to be the next whatever. For all we know XVI could be an MMO and still not come out for another 10 years. We could get a sudden surge and get back to one every year or two. XIV might pull a WoW and still be going into 2025 before they even think of looking into making another MMO.

Since XI and XIV are both MMOs, it'll probably be FFXVII that will be an MMO, just for the "every 3 games" to be a pattern.

If MMORPGs weren't falling by the wayside maybe. It wouldn't surprise me if FF XIV was their last, at least for a long time.

While I cannot give a specific date on when personal housing will be implemented, I can say that prices will be completely separate from free company housing, and, naturally, far more affordable.

The game game could be sold back for nothing just some day after the release. Obviously I wouldn't take into account that if it were only now.

Love the argument of "i don't agree so your salty".

I'm just thinking that losing money from a game you make isn't success. Without taking accout of wether people liked it or not.

Anyway, they said that if it worked you'll get a XVI. We'll see from that then. If it isn't on mobile completly.

Final Fantasy XVI has never been confirmed.

A new MMO confirmation at this point would also be bad since ShB is about to come out. If they would announce MMO (as an example) the best time would be at the end of the expansion so instead of announcing a new expantion they announce a new MMO to come out next year (the new MMO would have been in development for 4 years minimum (MMO from scratch takes a long time to make)).

Anyway FF XVI has never been confirmed as I said and it took around 10 years for FF XV so let's wait, if we're lucky next FF game would be in 2026.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

Maybe, but how the whole FFXV project cost them ?
I'am sure the difference between cost and profit is largely different from FFVII and FFX.
