Was it ever made clear whether or not XVI will be an MMO or single player?

FF16 will not be an MMO, most likely. It would be far too early. If there is a new MMO, it probably won't be until FF17 or 18.

Since XI and XIV are both MMOs, it'll probably be FFXVII that will be an MMO, just for the "every 3 games" to be a pattern.
