    I more or less started "taking a break" shortly after 1.20 came out (literally the weekend after). I still logon every few days, just to see if I can find something I actually want to do. 1.20 was a pretty big disappointment for me personally, but I had already seen it coming from all the pre-notes. I think I'll continue to keep my sub, because I really WANT to enjoy this game and don't really want to miss out on what may be a really epic story. Maybe after jobs come out and they start dropping major content patches and rework a few issues.. I'll be back full-time. As of now though, I am enjoying TOR (at the very least for the story) so I plan to play through that and see how endgame is.

    You could always just renew your sub the month a patch comes out, play for a bit then cancel until the next patch. Rinse, lather, repeat until the game is at a state you're happy with.
