I play because despite the flaws the game has, to me it is still funner than 95% of the MMORPGs on the market. How many games let you switch your class on the fly? Not many. How many games out there actually have a decent story webbed into the MMO? Not many.

Yoshi-P and team is picking up the pieces, and is showing great dedication to fixing this game. They're trying to make it more enjoyable than it is. I find it enjoyable currently but I can't fricken wait until 2.0.

They could take the time to add more content to 1.0 and spend less time on progress towards 2.0, but I think that's never going to be a realistic option since having 600 characters on during peak hours on a high population server I can't see how they could break even with the sub. From a business standpoint if I were Wada-san I would want V2 here as fast as possible so his company could start making money on it.

They could increase the staffing, but my guess is there is a risk vs. reward factor they have to consider and doubling the staff might increase their risk beyond what is acceptable to their board of directors. Doubling the staff would not double their efficiency either, and in fact while they brought new people up to speed on the project it would decrease it.

What I really want to see them do is adequately play-test V2 before we get it, and by play test I mean have real players from around the world hammer on it while they are making it. It's not enough to have the devs do the play-testing themselves. Its not a problem of game code not working as they intended as much as it is a problem of what they intended not working for the players. The only way to find out what the players do and don't enjoy is to let the players test it and tell them which ideas are good and which are bad. They need test servers for V2 like they have for XI. Even if it is only a 100 people logged in a day its not exactly all that much less than the number of people on the servers they are currently maintaining. I'd accept a delay on the release of V2 if it means the game is truly ready for release.

I still play because yoshi and the crew have sold me on their vision for 2.0, and because of the team's dedication to really improving the game.

I'm an old online gamer, used to play MUDs back when they were in fashion. I've loved online RPG's since, and have beta'd and played many over the years. This is one of the few MMO's that has had the fortune of employing highly active community reps that do more than just "announce," but also act as liaisons for the players with unprecedented frequency.

I still play because I feel like our voices are indeed being heard, and amidst the chaos and differing opinions, Yoshi and co. are distilling info and concerns that can be applied for the betterment of FFXIV as a whole. Not everyone likes what they've done/are doing/will do, but I personally cannot deny that everything being done is is done for the love of a franchise that can still offer so much more, and FFXIV aims to prove it.

As the op. says if you're not enjoying the game, just leave and move for better things, but im sure that many people that keeps track of the game is because they dont seem to find a better game. For that i mean the cool concepts the game has and the otherss lack, like originality and a final fantasy feeling that starts to feel since a few patches back and is getting stronger everytime they release a new patch.

If you're not feeling that, well maybe is time to move on and stop wasting your own time.

Im an old gamer too, btw

    Because this game is terrible.
    Because this game is perfect.
Because this game is just right for me.

Because right now, this is the MMORPG which is the most fun to me.
And because the very best MMORPG of the world, which I played previously, got closed down..maybe I have a thing for beautiful games with an interesting storyline and a very free class system and skillbased combat which are on the edge of dying..

I'm interested in other games though, which will be released in 2012, so SE should hurry up and make FFXIV more enjoyable than it is now(still so many bugs unfixed, for example), or I might wander off to those games..

Need that image from reddit/imgur that has the guy about to say something and stopping at the lost moment because he realizes there's no way to dispute it.

This actually happens in XI in certain situations, for example Rolanberries in Rolanberry Field mature during some seasons (changes color) and there's the BST quest flowers that'll bloom during night hours (non stormy) so I'm sure it's possible for them to do now if they REALLY wanted to.
