You're not alone in feeling this way. When the announcement was made that both of our shiny new races would be exclusively "beautiful female" and "powerful beast male," I did feel alienated. The inclusion of those, with the specific exclusion of the reverse ("beautiful male" and "powerful beast female") left me feeling disappointed and left out.

I do want to be clear that I support and appreciate all of the hard work that the devs put in. I always have, and I know that they must have a mountain of obstacles that we never see on a daily basis. After reading the recent interview especially, and receiving a more thorough explanation as to the 'why' of the decision, I do understand.

However, I also hope that Yoshi and the devs will read all of this feedback (For this one thread alone- Replies: 1,460, Views: 100,741, Likes: 1392) and consider releasing the other side of the coin at some point.

Its 2019, genderlocking is a thing of the past.

Why does every member of a race conform strictly to everything in their culture without question? Seems more unbelievable then the males just never leaving for reasons.

This gender lock needs to go away, specially because of the new freedom that they promise to implement on the new races. They may not like their original concept, but some ppl in the community have some really cool ones. I hope they rethink it.

It really makes me sad to see both races gender-locked. I know it is resource-intensive to make a new race and gender, so I'm not hoping for anytime soon- But I really do hope we'll get male Viera. Please let us have sexy male buns!

I don’t think I have seen a thread with over 1,000 likes since we asked the dev team to loop the music and other similar requests.

Hopefully Square-Enix can get past their feeling of “it’s weird to make make Viera” and gives in to this request.

I personally am fine either way, since we have male Miqo’te and Male Elezen But this definitely wouldn’t hurt things.

This! I feel like when it comes to male Viera, the fact that they barely appear in lore is very interesting and leaves room for a lot of amazing possibilities. How did a male Viera end up being the Warrior of Light and a fabled hero? There are many interesting stories that could be spun here.
If a male Miqo'te or a Xaela from the Steppe can find themself as a adventurer in Eorzea, why shouldn't a Viera man be capable of it? Lore and it's traditions have never really applied to the protag of this game - and I mean this in a positive way. It's empowering to see anyone can be the hero. And it's empowering to let players choose how they look. Not to mention it makes for a whole lot of fun while playing.

It always seemed to me like FFXIV was very much about the hero we play and their journey and I personally am very captured by the attention that has been put into writing this very personal story.
One of the games biggest strengths is this imo. The player is allowed to play through all of this and look and express themself as wanted - while being of any gender and race and background. Genderlocking Viera and Hrothgar takes away from this and is very limiting. A lot of players have been looking forward to playing as a male Viera and I am sure just as many are disappointed to not be able to be a female Hrothgar.

I do enjoy both new races and think they are fantastic but incomplete in their current design. Adding another gender would take considerable effort but it would be a great improvement. I really hope they will consider doing this, even if it would take until 5.x or even 6.0.
Personally I was looking forward to playing as a male Viera myself and I didn't even know I would have loved to play as a female Hrothgar until the last Fanfest - but not I reeeaaally want to play as both of them!

Few would quit the game just over Viera. Likely it would be a combination of things, and this was just the final straw.

Doesn't like Eureka, and Relic locked behind it (maybe they force themselves to do it, maybe not)
BLU released as a limited job
BA entry a complete gong show (assuming they pushed through Eureka)
Keynote gets announced and no new healer & gender locked races
They unsub.

I mean, it's not hard to see. A lot of these have had very polarizing view points when they were released. Some liked all of it, some liked some of it, and some didn't like any of it.

I lost most of my FC after Animos (though they're coming back with the expansion).

Are there some who will quit just over the races? Sure. There's people in the extreme end of any topic. I just feel the majority who are saying they will unsub now have been frustrated with many things prior to this.

Same its the reason i resubed and preordered soon as they announced it but idc about male Viera and I'm happy about dancer being added so that +2 for me
