For a tank, they justified themselves. SE sees the prefered MT/OT situation as an issue. Healing being a shared responsability doesn't fit under the same reasoning. So now, why do we need a 4th healer?
That can be reversed as well.
Damage being a shared responsability doesn't fit under the same reasoning. So now, why do we need more dps?
I'm glad no new healer was added, SE can'T properly balance 3 healers as it is. Maybe the existing ones get better abilities in 5.0, as unlikely as that sounds. But at least it won't be worse than having to design new abilities and a completely new healer.
Great community btw
I think it's exactly because they couldn't balance the three healers that they should have taken the opportunity just to create a totally unique healer that's totally different from the others. If they could get that healer class to work in end game content, it would probably provide them with a lot of insight as to why they can't balance the other 3. Though, they do seem to have caught on that you can't really balance 3 healers when they all heal using only 2 different methods. Now, if only they could catch on that all of the healers need utility too and give WHM some...
Why would it be any less so? Off-heals vs. main-heals, in content that actually requires notable GCD healing (especially back when mana efficiency was an actual concern), are more significantly differentiated than off-tanks vs. main-tanks, which come down merely to rotation of swaps, even if one may be slightly better able to provide their mitigation throughput without currently having lead enmity.
I'm having memories of something

Well, at least the tanks got a new job this expansion. We're now going 2 expansions without a new job. Because of balance... which was the excuse they also used last expansion... which they did nothing to fix all throughout 4.0... despite having the time to apparently develop the "Limited Job" of Blue Mage... Which is another DPS... so technically the DPS role got 3.5 new jobs in 2 expansions...
"Then what is magic for?" Prince Lir demanded wildly. "What use is wizardry if it cannot save a unicorn?"
Schmendrick did not turn his head. With a touch of sad mockery in his voice, he said, "That's what heroes are for."

Looking at Mr.Happy's interview with Yoshi P. It seems that the view of 1 healer pure healing, the other shielding and the last one able to do both is going to change.
Healers I expect are going to have the most significant battle changes we will see come this May.
Noooo... no. That's not what he said. He said that having only "Pure Heals" (I assume he means direct heals) and "Barrier Heals" should change. This is good. What is bad is that he plans on "making WHM easier to play" which is baaaaaaad. WHM is already ridiculously easy to play. The problem is... we have 0 raid utility to bring to the table... so... why bring one when you can get heals and utility with AST and SCH?
Given the development team's track record so far with healing changes and adding new abilities before a new expansion, the fact that healing will see the most significant changes is exactly what terrifies us the most. They have not had a lot of success with that. Now, if they hadn't been so clueless as to expect "Hey we just released 2 dps classes and ignored tanks and healers, so the community probably expects a tank and healer this time around" what would have been something nice to do is release a new healer, completely different from any other healer. Perfectly balanced in tune to the content of 5.0 and then reworked the other 3 while balancing them in tune with the new healer which they balanced to the content.
