I really don't think they were being sexist, they just prioritised their resources in a way that people didn't like.

I don't think the developers were being lazy, or sexist. I can respect that they didn't have the resources to do both genders of both races. I would have just preferred they make one full race than two half races.

The only thing that irks me is when they try and use lore as a shield, but when they're open and honest about it really being about developer resources I'm not upset, I just disagree with how they used those resources.

I respect their decision and I wouldn't want to add more strain on the dev team to painstakingly make the other genders and possibly have to reconsider NPC storylines and everything else that goes along with it. So far I've mainly seen people upset about male Viera anyways. After the behavior of the community I hope you (the devs) stick to your guns and keep what you've already made. Don't reward bad behavior and make more work for yourselves.

I, for one, am super stoked that we get a real, beast-looking race (Hrothgar) as the other "beast races" have basically been: generic human with cat ears/tail or other generic human with horns/minor scales/tail.

Except they wouldn't have more stain if they hadn't over reached and decided on two races instead of one. Complete what you are doing first before moving on.

Honestly, I would rather not have this version of Hrothgar. It looks like a Roegadyn with face paint on. It is very slapdash, compared to Viera/Au ra/Miqote (other animal races). They could have quickly rushed a male viera together by making the changes they did for female viera, as they would have a template, then worked on getting us a complete Hrothgar in a later xpac. Would I like a lionboy or liongirl? Yes. Do I want this one? Not Really. Now that we have it, I wouldn't advocate it to be removed, but I WOULD advocate they finish both races by doing the opposite genders. The lore reason for genderlocked Viera is as flimsy as genderlocked Miqote, and there is no reason at all for genderlocked Hrothgar. The dev reason is a choice they made. They could have planned better around it. Clearly they realize this or wouldn't be talking about considering feedback.

Before you say: "But they said they won't do other patches with races"... that was a decision they announced here and now that they have Viera and Hrothgar. We don't know the reason for this, and we don't know that having done only 1 they wouldn't have done the second before putting a limit.

For real though, is it so horrible to try to have everyone mostly happy or at least content? Saying this kind of thing comes off as petty-- "How dare you ask for something in a game you pay monthly, for the base game and xpacs and might sometimes even spend in what amounts to a cash shop when I got what I wanted and I can laugh in the face of who didnt?"

The devs themselves are humans, and I strongly oppose harassing them for such things. Square Itself is a business, and you have every right to disagree with their practices being a paying customer. I'd like to remind people SE is no indie company, and if they tried to bite more than they could chew it's their own fault for making unreasonable demands of their employers. For myself, I'd rather they put off ShB release 6 or 12 months if it meant getting more quality.

Have I mentioned that we'll have to pay for a expansion that might be incomplete on release day, and most likely have bugs and glitches, some even game breaking, because the devs may be rushing? After the whole "the hats won't be ready for realease day on the new races" and possibly the genderlocking, I have to wonder what else they are having to cut corners on to push this game out. Yeah, patches are a thing, sure, but nobody wants to log in on release day, all hyped to start the new msq/level/whatever to find they won't be able to play because the game is crashing and it wasn't beta tested enough.

I'd say for it to be rewarding bad behavior the vast majority of the people who want it would have to be behaving badly, and if you browse any of the "remove genderlock please" threads 90% of the comments are completely reasonable, a ton of people even premise their comments with "please in a future expansion-". Punishing a majority giving criticism politely for a few people going too far or being too dramatic seems like an unfair deal.

On the topic of changing up NPC storylines... Can I ask what kind of storyline it would change? I'm struggling to think of a scene that would be so ruined by the presence of male viera or female hrothgar that an entire storyline needs reworking. The best I can think of right now is the "I've never seen a male Viera..." stuff from the dramaturge, but if thats the extent of the problem... I don't think its that big a deal.

Could I also ask... Whats the difference in beast-ness between a race that has a cat face and fur on a human body and a race that has scales, horns and a tail on a human body? Is it the snout? I like the idea of the Hrothgar a lot, the Ronso are cool, but when people have always asked for more beast like races my mind goes to the Bangaa or the Ixal or goblin. Races with drastically different bodies.
