This is good news. The fact that players' opinions are listened to is something I've always liked about this game. I am hopeful we'll get both male Vierra and female Hrothgar sometime in the future, or at least that the devs will give it serious consideration.

The above certainly appears to be the reasons for the route they took with the race choices. Can that change and lore be revised and additional genders added, certainly if they choose to do so.

Also a race is not a hivemind. Just because they usually don't show themselves a live isolated doesn't mean that every male Viera has to do so. Leaving the forest was forbidden by the females as well and they shunned Fran for it. So seeing all these female Viera shouldn't be much different from encountering banished male ones.

No lore would even have to be changed for male Viera given :
1. a single male leaving the forest does not break the lore. (other PCs are ignored canonically)
2. they already broke the lore so many other times without changing it, like for Duskwights and Keepers. They don't need to change the lore, they need to stop hiding behind it.

i think they want to remain true to FFXII and I really don't know how that IP would feel with XIV making changes like adding males to their game when XII hasn't. I'm not opposed to having the genders added. Perhaps they will but it does appear to be quite expensive and requires quite a bit of development time.

Personally I'm not unhappy with the choices made for this xpac. Male and Female for both would have been too good to be true I suppose.

XI doesn't seems to be upset with the fact that two races from there are unlocked now.
Still, as you said, it costs money and a lot of time, so it's reasonable that they want to be sure that such implementation will be worth. Same as it was in 1.0.

Well then it's a question of money and development time and whether or not they are willing to invest that into the game. I'm all for additional races. It's a big part of the fun I have with the game and a reason why I have so many alts.

With that gamespot news and this game watch: https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...w_with_yoship/ I think the picture is far more hopeful for those worried it wont happen.

Seems like to me the reason was trying to strike a balance with limited resources, and I get some people will be like "i'd rather have male viera" but.. that didn't happen and wont 180 in the short time we have available. In that if you'd like to see change we'll have to look forward to it coming later, but looking forward to it at least seems to be a real option~! (It's not doomed).

So, not sure we should separate the two support threads like people have attempted (Viera x Hrothgar) but definitely I think people migrating to and preparing for a long haul trip might be rewarded with their dedication.

Trying not to burn a thread out by posting too fast and creating some sort of concepts of what could make fun bumps can help keep these threads going strong and productive, might try some ideas like:

• Posting new art to the thread on a slow burning interval (not a deluge)
• Discussing what you might envision they look like, I know this has filled many pages in: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...er-locked-race
• Thinking of /how/ the races will join us, what kind of event could be made that would feel cool.
• Further story or even lore quests, like for the Male Viera who get kicked out of their home at a young age.. what do those males who don't want to be kicked out experience?

It's also good news that resources was the reason (even if you find it annoying) because it means that ancient old quote might not have an effect on anything, especially as we've got some really weird bunny suits and all that jazz.

Hopefully people can use these little bits of information to de-stress and show support, and perhaps help lend to the concept of what you'd like to see before it's out.
