I do not support male viera, I support Yoshi's original design vision and feel that betraying the ingame lore isnt a good idea. No thanks.
Please deposit all soul crystals at the door, as going by the lore, there's only one of most of them and someone else probably unlocked it before you.
I realize that developing a specific gender for a race is both astonishigly cost and time consuming. From designing the base, their customization options, animating unique emotes etc. Not to mention the QA-testing required to make sure armour fits the right way and that the dialogue and flavour text is correctly displayed. So I can absolutely understand why it's unreasonable to expect to recieve both male/female viera/hrothgar with the same expansion. And I'm not sure I necessarily think it's the wrong decision to include one gender of each to start with. But that's what I'd like it to be, a start.
I would love to see male viera and female hrothgar appear in a later expansion. Game development is difficult and time consuming and you can never please everybody but hopefully us showing our opinions, in a hopefully civilized and balanced way, can influence the decision-making moving forward.
The lore could also be changed to reflect the sudden cultural shift that would result in male viera appearing more visibly. Maybe the central conflict of a coming expansion could force them into action or something.
I'd love to see male Viera in the game, it would seem rather weird to restrict just one race to a particular gender.
Yes please to male Viera. We have male miqote after all.
The game needs male bunnies to make this race slightly less of a copyright infringement against the estate of Hugh Hefner
I personally do appreciate the lore of this game a lot. Hovewer, when it comes to players, we break the lore on daily basis because we are lore-unfriendly in, like, half of content.
- there is only one non-Padjali White Mage: WoL.
- there is only one Scholar: WoL.
- there is only one non-doman Ninja and Samurai: WoL.
- Au Ra, as playable race, are lore-unfriendly both Xaela and Raen because they barely leave their territories.
- Miqo'te Males as playable gender are lore unfriendly due to their low birthrate. Especially it goes to Moon Keepers (where female are quite lore unfriendly too, by the way).
And that's only things I remember without serious thinking.
Also I will notice that Roegadyns and Miqo'te are not original race for FF14, the came here from FF11 where they were genderlocked same as were so in 1.0 among with Highlanders (which goes to the argument "that's how it was in original game". It is an argument, but quite weak one in case with FF14 because of its past). Due to player base feedback developer team decided to remove this lock and created counterparts from the zero. By the way, back then there were same arguments about lore as well (also as about "It's not what we should think about"), so the story actually repeats.
That be said, lore is important. Still, it is more about NPCs and world around us than about players. Because if we will do everything based on lore... we should delete the game itself or make it single-player.
I hope with all my heart that Yoshi-P really listens to our opinions, perhaps we will have to wait for an expansion or two but the important thing is that our voices are heard. Let's keep our fingers crossed and keep trying.
I would also like to show my support for this and will be doing so in the female Hrothgar thread as well. I feel like gender-locking is an unnecessary limitation of player choice that harkens back to an MMO era we left behind; it's 2019, not 2001.
If it takes up to two expansions I hope to God that they would provide constant progress updates in their little dev blogs. Cause idk how long I can trust their, or their faith in our attention span
