People's characters are them, and people weren't more thick skinned back in the day, they just had much less power to speak up for themselves. That is not the case anymore, which is cool.

To the OP, lore is not a valid argument. Eorzea is not some bespoke creation where Sephiroth floats down from the 7th heaven and hands Banri Oda a tome of immutable Eorzean facts. The writing team tacitly decided on their regressive lore and it passed Yoshi P at some point. But let's be realistic, they decided on not doing male Viera well before they wrote the lore and then wrote the lore to try and deflect criticism and I guess it works because here we are.

Does this make Yoshi P and the lore team sexist? I don't know them enough to say. Based on what Yoshi P said about dancer, I imagine not. But is this another in a growing list of things I am finding concerning? Yeah it is. I don't like the Au Ra dimorphism, I don't like that it took them 2 years to get male bunny outfits in the game, I don't like that they've shifted towards making more gender distinct equipment and I don't like genderlocked races.

But I am more bothered that Minfilia is back so whatcha gonna do?

A growing trend? you people act like the game has consistently been a horrible experiences yet all of you come out of the woodwork suddenly to voice these at once.Personally this doesn't seem like you guys where not allowed to voice it you always have been you just pick to bottle it up because you know the opinion is bad. The bunny outfit's are a fetish type thing to make a character look sexy and there are several other outfits for males to do the same but the bunny outfits are primarily a female thing and with how SE's development progress is it probably was on a scheduled to be made once the demand was heard.

Making a outfit and a character is not something that can be done in a single week if you at all look at how 3D models are made in games and double so for MMO's. The game and dev team are the farthest thing from sexist in my eyes as most JP dev teams are and I play a lot o JP trash.

Guess what ? Have you wondered that there are muscular,hairy man, who acts like a traditional man (who happens to be gay) and is overall a good person? (Hint:i am) I feel personally atacked by you guys because im only hearing toxic , toxic, and by looking at the video of the hrotgar reveal i havent seen them bully, pick fights, drink beer, or w/e it is labeled "ToXiC MaSCuLinity", while this people offended are offended because they THINK (key word) SE is sending a political message,and i have to read that looking the way i look(i mean the overall vibe,im not a furry or a thundercat lol) is objectively bad (because we only have that atm, some footage,so judging a book by its cover).

They arn't, but people like to pretend their avatar in a video game represents them in X setting. Thats fine to do, but then they become Way to attached to a fictional character that they literally act like it is them. Then it gets to silly levels like now.... You are a Human being in the Real World on the other side of the computer screen. You are not a Male Viera, even if you Roleplay one in a Digital Space.

Lore is a valid argument in the case of Viera. People hate to hear it, but thats a simple fact and you can't dance around it. And bringing up other races isn't an argument against it, they arn't Viera, and the Viera existed before XI and XIV. So yes, they have lore, protecting that lore is a valid excuse. And bringing in Collaboration events and items isn't an argument against lore either. Stop trying.
Now, if anyone is paying attention to the current lore of the XIV storyline, there is in fact a chance that Male Viera and Female Ronso could become playable, maybe in the 2nd arc, or even the next expansion. Im way more interested in where the story goes that might justify the lore allowing Male Viaras to come out of hiding then I am that we arn't getting them right away. So to the people complaining about no Male Viera, just play the dam game and see what happens. You should be playing XIV for the story or just because its a fun game. Not for a dam gender of a fictional race

And there is nothing wrong with gender specific gear, trying to force western ideology into a japanese game is much more worse then the dev team deciding to not let male characters wear bras.

The game won't be in duress because ShB marketing will bring in new players that will pay their subs in your stead.

I'm just gonna repost what I posted in another thread regarding the "genderlock."

Probably posted in this thread somewhere, but here. Maybe this'll make some of you guys hopeful.

Q: When did you decide to implement the female-only Viera and male-only Hrothgar?

A: It was during Return to Ivalice, around 3 months after 4.0. Viera was confirmed then, and Hrothgar came about at the same time when we were discussing plans with Matsuno-san. We were deciding whether to make a Hrothgar female or a Viera female, and after selecting Viera, work began right away, because otherwise we wouldn't make it in time. As mentioned before, the face parts are special and Hrothgar has big differences between its faces, like a lion face, wolf face, leopard face. It became a fixed model relatively recently. Viera was done right before Paris Fan Fest, and Hrothgar was done recently.

TL;DR, they made a last minute decision and decided to go with the female Viera instead of female Hrothgar (so there's a chance Viera wouldn't have even been a thing). There's a possibility they may one day add female Hrothgar and (maybe) male Viera... maybe for 6.0.

Maybe they'll even make the Fat'qotes playable one day, hahah.

I imagine that if SE did decide to go the route where Viera weren't going to be playable in this expansion, people would complain possibly as much as the Genderlocking issue (which may get fixed up in 6.0, since genders aren't new races). I know for a fact there would be people saying "you're wasting your resources!" "no one will play them!" etc etc. I know this because this is what I've had to deal with any time I'd ask for a playable beastman o:
