I'm a physical range Dps main, so I'm excited about it. FINALLY a 3rd job for physical range category.. Can't wait to play dancer. Right now I'm looking forward on what Gaia Job is? Much like Yugiri we may get a hint to a possible future job. A possible job for a hammer wielder.. they sure are good at leaving us hanging again.

There is a valid argument to be made that genderlocking the races sends a message that all men must be buff and all women must be fetishized.

There is also a valid argument to be made that they've said in the past they won't do this, and now they've gone back on that.

That has nothing to do with entitlement and everything to do with expressing your individuality as well as holding developers to their word.

And I'm saying this as somebody who had a neutral stance on the subject until these two arguments were brought to my attention.

If you don't like it, I suggest you come up with a better counterpoint than "stop being so entitled".

    Entitilted huh?

I don't think so. More like caring.

I mean, if you like the game and care and feel like something could have been better you say so.
If you're ok with things obviously most people won't say anything. But having people complain is having people that do care about your work. If they weren't giving a damn there wouldn't be a single comment about anything.
While some reaction and comment can be excessive it also show that they care. Some restraint could be better but still.

For the race, since they like it they want to play it as the gender they like, make sence no?
For the jobs, no one says it was bs as far as I saw. Good we got it, just sad healer wanting to play, well healer. Doesn't seem too crazy too me at least.

Besides, complaning about people complaining, feels like bitting its own tail.

People are insanely selfish in their demands, hiding behind notions of right and wrong to try and get what they want, accusing/attacking the dev team of homophobia and what not, it's sick.

If the Devs decide to implement male/female Viera and Hrothgar, we're going to lose out on future content due to time constraints. I guarantee it! These requests don't come without a cost.

In another game, maybe. The FF series in general, though - including XIV - simply does not deliver the emphasized message above. If anything, buff males are underrepresented in XIV, as only Roegadyn really fit the bill right now.

Females, yeah, you've got a point there. But considering how the community has consistently asked for the Viera - a race of literal playboy bunnies - I have a hard time believing many people were wanting non-fetishized females, for right or wrong. And, indeed, the negative reactions to Hrothgar have centered around not having a fetishized boy Viera option instead.

    ----------

As to the OP, I agree to an extent, but SE is hardly innocent here. They've a terrible track record when it comes to listening to player feedback, and they also have a terrible track record when it comes to fixing up half-implemented content. As a result, when desired content is announced and then it turns out there's a severe limitation, the community reacts strongly. After all, odds are we won't see another race for years, and there's absolutely no evidence to suggest SE will ever go back and add male Viera or female Hrothgar in a reasonable amount of time.

Giving SE the benefit of the doubt and accepting disappointing decisions with grace usually relies upon a degree of trust in their capabilities and thought processes. SE shattered this trust with the 1.0 release, pulled off a miracle with ARR that managed to rebuild a lot of it, and has steadily been letting it erode ever since by putting XIV development on auto-pilot.

Strong feedback when they make mistakes is one of many consequences of this strategy.

Edit / Personal Anecdote: My boyfriend mains White Mage, and he is very disappointed over DNC being released as a DPS. He's pointed out, though, that the main reason for this disappointment is the near-certainty that there'll be another two years before the next opportunity arises for a Healer. This certainty of his is the problem, and it's rooted in the fact that aside from Rogue / Ninja, SE has not released a single non-limited job outside of an expansion cycle. Even in the case of NIN and BLU, they were released late in an expansion cycle. Given SE's strong, strong tendency to stick to established update patterns, it's unlikely they'll change their approach now.

This is an example of the harm that can be done by sticking to the plan, not being more dynamic, not being responsive to player feedback. It leads to a sense of hopelessness when a relatively narrow window of opportunity passes without good news, and the feedback is correspondingly more intense. They've made this bed for themselves, and while the feedback is an overreaction when viewed in a vacuum, it is more understandable in the context of SE's development patterns since ARR released.

Maybe they will cut some of Eureka for that...then sign me up for that celebration for male Bunnies and Fem Hrothgar.
And then give me a thrid Race if that means we get rid of this Skinner Box of bad Game Design straight out of negative examples in a Game Designer Book.

Actually becauseof my personally dislike for Eureka that would be the one case where I would support the redirection of resources. Than again it is only my personally view and maybe unfair for people that maybe like it.

I feel you are overlooking the ripped abs that the boy cats have. XD

All kidding around aside, we ARE talking about extremes here, so your point is valid. I just couldn't help but poke about that
