Ok, at least male Viera had an excuse, what about female Hrothgar? unless I missed something, I don't think anything's been given out about why Hrothgars are male only, aside from being a decoy for Viera's absence.

The fact that people are trying to tell others how to feel and then saying they're bitchy and annoying. Take a good look in the mirror.

I'm saddened by this whole gender thing. I was disappointed at the release of the Viera, especially the racial gear.
What I feel, as a female player, is that it's very hard for me to play something which isn't aimed at the male gaze. I would love a shot at playing a female Hrothgar and I want all the guys who were interested in the male Viera to have their shot too. The whole thing about new Final Fantasy games is that each time, the devs get the choice to reinvent aspects of the game. There is no lore for Viera in FFXIV except that which the FFXIV devs create. So many other aspects of the series change regularly, I don't see why this is any different.
Characters and their design are huge and people want to play different races, body types and genders to represent them in the game. Or even no gender. This feels like a backward step to me and I think represents a very dated view on who is playing your game. Give your players the freedom to express themselves.
I imagine that they decided to add Viera first, but knowing they wouldn't add male viera, they decided they needed another race for males. As for why not female viera plus male and female hrothgar, I imagine it's just a workload thing.
Yep I know this. Its just that if that individual wanted to use that train of thought, then this is the result we should have gotten. Although I'm disheartened by this step backwards I still have plenty of things to look forward to in 5.0
I'm just trying to clean up some of the scraps in the riot and what not.
Just popping in to add my voice to the "Disappointed in Genderlocks"-Camp.
Don't get me wrong, even though I have thrown in my support for the addition of Viera in the past, I was never under the illusion that the male Viera we were going to get would be perfectly to my liking. That said, I definitely expected them to add the males together with the females.
And while I was never expecting them to add a more beastly race race due to early game lore, I'm happy for those that got them. But that makes it all the more baffling, especially since SE decided to play the diversity card at fanfest only to lock it to one gender.
In short, its not the races that bother me, we have plenty of options, its really exclusively the genderlocks. I've said this before in this thread, but its principle: I don't like it when Devs add new aesthetics, but make them available to only part of the playerbase that would want them.
There have been plenty of people asking for male Viera; and those people didn't get them.
There have been plenty of people asking for more beastly race option; and not all of those people want to play male characters.
I just personally think that when new options are added, they should be available to everyone regardless of gender.
Now, I'm fully aware that resource restrictions are a thing, and that in order to make additions like multiple new races concessions have to be made.
But I also do hope that SE acknowledges that this decicion has left a lot of people disappointed and chooses to add the missing genders later.
Until then, I might leave (nothing in the Keynote made me particularly excited about buying the expansion so I might just sit this one out at least until I can get it for cheap),
or I might not, really all depends on wether or not there are positive surprises left.

I can't Speak for YoshiP, but Im guessing that we get Male Ronso just to counterbalance the Viera so they arnt the only 1 gendered race.
I get it, you want Male Bunnies that Badly.Let's not forget that the XIV Ivalice has:
- Changed certain character's motivations and personalities
- Changed the story of certain characters
- Changed character genders and relations (Ba'gamnan's sister being turned into a male, Rasler and Ashe being siblings)
- Completely changed the order of the timeline
- Changed the geography of Ivalice and locations of certain areas.
But yeah male bunnies would completely ruin the Ivalice lore.
What does the Miqo'te and Roe have to do with Viera Lore?Miqo'te have been around since FFXI, long before FF12. Their lore was exactly the same: men are ultra rare spawns and have to stay home to take care of the kids.
Roegadyn (Galka) were originally asexual. when they got old, they went back to the ancestral lands and their bodies molted into egg-like chrysalis. They would then be reborn as young children with all the knowledge of their past lives.
All of that was changed in FF14 2.0. Lore is no excuse.

>Male Keepers of the moon are more uncommon in lore more than male viera are
Yes all that is lore friendly and belivable, but bunny boys some how are not
