I noticed in the trailer that foresty place with "Matoya" and Urianger seems to be experiencing a starshower, like in 1.0 videos and an early 2.0 cutscene.

Im pretty sure Koji said 12000 years when he was commentating during Yoshi's background explanation of the Shards.

Then again his voice was comparatively low, so I could have misheard 10000

Koji definietly said Hydaelyn imprisoned Zodiark in the Moon (and created the Shards) 12,000 years ago.

I don't know what to feel about this. I tend to care a lot more about characters rather then places, and so far the 1st Shard is more of a place. I think what feels weird about it is that where we were going (and who we would be interacting with) in 3.0 and 4.0 was hinted at as "early" as the .4 patches. So we had time to get attached to those people and characters even before their expansions started. Here, there's no emotional connection to just about anything in the 1st Shard.

All I know is that the .56 patch had better do a really, really good job giving a reason for us going to the 1st Shard. Otherwise... this might be the most "meh" I've felt about FFXIV's story in a long time. The most interesting part about all this is the cosmology of it.

Right now though? It feels like the Warrior of Light and the key Scions are being Put On A Bus for an expansion so that the Garlean story over in the Source can develop without them. Mainly so that the devs don't have to go into a lot of nitty-gritty details about how that conflict develops. And then at the end of 5.0 they can just stick us back in the Source and have the Garlean conflict be in whatever state they want it to be in.

I don't know... right now I feel like the state of the story is in free fall and I don't know if it will stick the landing. I will know by Tuesday though.

Another 2,000 years isn't going to make that much of a difference.

Discounting Light-caused erasure, the geology on Norvrandt should be similar (if not identical). In terms of culture, though, it will probably be very different. Lalafell are called "dwarves" and considered a beast tribe? Do they greet everyone with "lali-ho?"

Keepers are practically a commodity and only wander between Keeper settlements to breed, right? Seekers are more forgiving but even they tend to stick with their tribes, no? Why's the lore suddenly matter so much? And how exactly are furry Roegadyn with horned heads (Hrothgar) going to be received in ARR/HW if Yugiri went out of her way to hide her appearance because it startled people?

Heck, the Viera and Miqo'te even have similar male to female birth rates don't they?

And why do we have Duskwights too? They all live in caves or are bandits.
I'm not going to say it's not sexist, but before bringing the hammer down too hard I think we need more information on the Hrothgar than the fact they exist and their basic appearance.

The males of both Miqo'te tribes tend toward being itinerants due to their culture. That's conducive to becoming adventurers... and I don't have either lore book myself, but are male / female birthrates skewed toward females in Miqo'te societies, or do the males just tend to be seen less due to their itinerant lifestyles / getting themselves killed vying for dominance?

Duskwights exist for the same reason drow elves are playable in D&D - so everyone can live out their Drizzt fantasies. (I kid. But I honestly don't know other than "Well, we need a second tribe for the elves.")

... I'll get to more tomorrow. It's late and I have to work tomorrow... nyeh...

Alright, it's 5am over here, but I have to get something out. Re-watched the Trailer, and - how could I have been missing the not even subtle use of 'Eternal Wind' from FF III in it?

Also, here's to hoping we meet Arbert and gang. They seemed to be written off so suddenly, like a wasted plot opportunity, so maybe they'll re-appear now...? Let me hope.

I'm taking Lore way too seriously. And I'm not sorry about that.

I could have sworn they were implying that as pseudo-Ascian entities with spent Crystals of Light, they were going to die again and wanted to do so in their own world. But if it's not explicitly stated, it can change. (And sometimes even then it can be subject to NEW REVELATONS, lol.)

Maybe the Crystals of Light could be re-charged with the overflowing light of the First? Not really probable, I know, would've just been cool to see more of the (other) WoDs.

Also, I didn't catch it in the Trailer, but the official site (german at least) lists Innocence as one of the Primals.

For better or worse, "Primals" seems to have been turned into the catch all phrase for 8-man content that isn't the Raid. So who knows what it really is.

So, we have our first confirmed beast tribe Warrior of Light/Darkness, correct? Now that we know lalafels are dwarves, which are a beast tribe, and there was a Lalafel white mage in the WoD's party. Or was there another previous WoL from a beast tribe?
