The Dalmascan moogles so far seem to be the only ones who really don't seem to have a certain pom color, but then we've only seen two and they match the colors they have in the other games they come from.

As Cilia said, pom colour seems to be tied to tribe rather than gender here - and genders are indicated by their naming patterns.
From the Beast Tribe Naming Conventions:
Having hidden themselves from the people of Eorzea for so long, moogles remain one of the most enigmatic of the realm’s beast tribes, and so very little is known of moogle language, moogle behavior, or moogle biology, for that matter. What has been determined is that females will have often have forenames that begin with P, whereas males will have names that begin with K.
Examples: Kupta Kapa (male), Pukla Puki (female)
All but the moogle guard cause even their names go against the rules. Course they do follow the first letter matching.
A little tidbit I picked up yesterday in the lvl 45 WHM quest the moogle talks about having his pom taking off by kenna(sp?) mostly in jest and seems to imply it would kill him/her. This is when they were sent out to search for clues on the missing urn of a tama right before you get holy. Sorry I dont have a link to the specific dialog shouldn't be hard to find though.
Well you can't tell gender by their names and as they're shroud moogles they also don't go by shroud moogle names.
Are we both talking about the Mogglesguard from Thornmarch here? Pukla Puki, Kupla Kipp, Puksi Pico, etc etc.? Because I'm not seeing anything wrong with those Shroud Moogle names compared to the example.
And you do tell the gender from the name. That's what the K=male, P=female rule is for. What makes you say you can't apply that here?
Sorry my mind was mostly going off their class names along with using those as part of their name instead of class then full name or the reverse for some.

Perhaps it is an aether-sensing organ. Moogles have been shown to be very sensitive to aether, such as getting disoriented at Thar Ooom Kash, or Montblanc remarking on how the aether was corrupted at the Orbonne Monastery.
Well, they do use their own to make themselves invisible so I don't see why they wouldn't be sensitive to other types of aether.
