After deleting my post twice accidentally I'm signing this. I've been playing for a long time and this change is big enough to make me consider abandoning this account and starting fresh free of steam.

Consider this a signature.

I will state again I would be happy to buy the whole game again on Windows if it was possible. I would just like to see the two licenses separated.

I sign this.
I've never personally had any problems using the game from my steam library, but I've had multiple friends tell me that running the game from steam causes their game to crash. I fear that they're going to be stuck playing an unstable game(which is obviously not fun) and/or quit since there's currently no way to separate their characters from steam.

Due to financial and other kind of issues, I'm kinda forced to purchase the Steam version in order to play this game currently.
While I do not encounter any major issue with the Steam client at the moment, any future/potential problems such as the ESO outage worries me.
I hope the FFXIV team reconsider implementing this as many users affected by this been voicing concerns on potential social as well as technical impacts.
Some of us that have purchased the Steam version are even willing to buy another license for the Window version(including me), even other MMOs allow this, so I don't see why this is not an option yet.

So an update on my question to support on how this change will comply with the UK's Consumer Rights Act 2015 gave me just a standard reply that nothing is finalised and to keep checking for updates. You would think they would at least put a note on a legal question that they follow all applicable laws.

Signed because I'm one of those people who been having issues with FFXIV Steam version. FFXIV steam version gave me terrible FPS compare to the SE Client but idc about this as long as it's still playable. What really concerned me right now is that I can't go to Mor Dhona at all without crashing. Other maps worked fine for me except Mor Dhona. If they really going to implement this, welp I guess Mor Dhona will be a restricted area for me lol. So please, if SE really going to make this happen, fix the memory leak in Mor Dhona. Idk what's wrong with that map. When I was leveling for the first time I got stuck in Mor Dhona for 2-3 days. After hardcore googling (xd) I found somewhere in forum a person suggested to download the normal client. So I did and finally I can load Mor Dhona without crashing until now.
My friend and I did few tests running the steam version of FFXIV today. This is what I found :
So apparently, you can run the steam version of FFXIV without the steam client or should I say..Without launching steam, I went to Steamlibrary>steamapps>common>FINAL FANTASY XIV Online>boot>ffxivboot.exe.
-The steam version of FFXIV allowed me to run the game without the Steam Launcher.
- I tried to teleport to Mordhona.
- Crashed.
So what I'm saying is... ITS NOT THE STEAM LAUNCHER THAT CAUSED THE GAME TO PERFORM AWFULLY. Its the steam version of FFXIV itself (FFXIV Steam Client). So yeah. Idk if its related to steam or not or like if Steam has powers to change how the FXXIV steam client is running but SE needs to figure this out :/ I get like -15-20 less fps running the steam version of FFXIV in general and cant load Mor Dhona at all.

signed in a heartbeat.
Quoting the numerous issues that ESO has had in the past 'til this day is enough for me. Even if they happen to give us subscription time for down Steam authentication servers what of the lost time of not being able to play with friends? And even then what if we have another outage so long that houses are demolished and land lost? Will I get that back somehow?
