Bleach kills brain cells, why are you expecting so much from blondes? Just smile & nod if they make eye contact and go about the business that needs to get done.

This is just one example of many where I question why people say the story is so good. It's not always terrible but I wouldn't call it "zomg amazing". I definitely don't play this game for the story a lot of the time but I do like being aware of what's happening. Don't think I've really had any emotional attachment to any characters either. If the Scions up and died suddenly they'd be forgotten within a day. They're just so...forgettable. I practically cheered when Minfilia was taken out of the picture for the most part and felt nothing but despair when she was shown in the Shadowbringers teaser. Judging from a few past FF games I know that SE could come up with a better story than they usually do. It always seems more interesting when Garleans are involved, so I guess the last patch or 2 was alright. Never a dull moment when it comes to the Garleans. Part of me wishes I could just defect. I'm gonna be wielding a gunblade soon, anyway.Personally, I felt it a shame when the devs decided to ditch Yda and replace her with Lyse, someone we knew nothing about. What was worse was the Scions seemed okay with it. Um... excuse me?
I have no idea why Yda couldn't have dropped her mask and become the leader of the resistance. Lyse seemed to be inserted just for the sake of inserting a new character.
Kinda hard to classify them as "useless blondes" since every prominent scion is blonde.
But yeah Lyse was robbed.
Obviously it's supposed to be the same character, it just doesn't feel like it. She has a completely different personality. Overall Lyse seems smarter and more timid than Yda was. The only time Lyse felt like Yda to me was when she punted that Namazu into space.
People change. Particularly when they have new roles and responsibilities thrust upon them, or when tragedy strikes. Lyse has experienced all of these, so I would actually be more taken aback if her character remained fixed. The storyline also addresses the continuity between the old and new Lyse frequently, as when both Lyse herself, as well as the people around her, express doubts about her capability to lead.
A significant part of the expansion is devoted to the concept of "what are people willing to fight for?"Then why is she in charge of the Resistance? It literally comes down to who her father was in the text, which smacked as a 'we wrote ourselves into a corner' move when it happens, but in practice they skipped literal chunks of development that would have made her worthy of that role.
Conrad starting to groom her to lead the Resistance, at least in part due to her family connection with Curtis Hext, and thus her existing as a symbol for people to rally behind, fits right in with the themes explored in the expansion.
Also, she's not meant to be a perfect fit. She's supposed to be in over her head, and further character development (for her and potentially others) is primed to happen as a result of her learning to properly lead. Honestly, having the "best" leader is often the boring choice for the narrative, and doesn't leave room for the story or characters to grow.
Addressing the other point brought up by the OP, though, this idea of "useless" in particular for Lyse - were you expecting her to take our place in the action? She's there fighting as often as she can, pulls her weight there, and even has a pivotal moment where in a fight she shouldn't stick around for on account of not having the Echo says "screw it, I'm staying to fight" and helps us put that enemy down. Kinda feels like people look at the mistakes she makes and judge her solely on those, glossing over and somehow forgetting when she is actively contributing (or is clearly shown to be an active contributor, just one in an off-screen moment).
Which is part of her character development (which is, it should be said, still ongoing, and we should all be able to recognize that the story writers here have no issue with having character developments play out over longer periods of time), as she no longer has the literal and figurative mask of her sister to hide behind.

i loved lyse idc if i knew nothing about her. hated the old scions and yoshi killing them off and giving them actual development and cool outfits is fine with me. outside 1.0, 2.0 scions ruined the story of 2.0 and 3.0 was better because they were missing in action.Personally, I felt it a shame when the devs decided to ditch Yda and replace her with Lyse, someone we knew nothing about. This thread needs to be moved to the lore section..
Note: Taking advice from a players alt, is like taking advice from a voice in a dark room. Criticism is a two way street remember that!!
Minfilia was a product of not having enough Show don't Tell we get told she did stuff but its all off screen and because of it most players wouldn't have paid attention and she comes off as a incompetent character. This could've been alleviated by having officials leave her office as we enter, the occasional line of unnamed npcs outside her office as we leave or even as we go back to the waking sands/rising stones we see multiple arguing npcs that you had to calm down to enter and Minifilia looks exhausted as you talk to her etc small things that show she actually does stuff rather than just stand there.
Lyse though is lessened by not enough focus and Hein having part of her arc but way better written so the contrast is more glaring, Lyse shouldn't have switched from Yda so fast i think she should've kept some of Yda's personality and gradually through SB change to be Lyse when you have been someone else in front of people as long as Lyse had your bound to keep some mannerisms from that other personality for a while. Lyse also never earned the resistance's trust once she gained the position of leader when you thrust leadership on someone out of the blue their will be dissension all that needed to happen was a scene with her giving a speech before Ala Mhigo show what she learned on her journey and why following her at least for the immediate future is the best course of action. Lyse could've been far better than Minfilia as a character but they squandered her potential far more than Minfilia and she comes across to me as a more dissapointing character.
Guy butt is best butt <3
Aaaah.Hello
I would like hear some people about the use and the write of those two character.
Some how i d say Lysa replace Minfilia in her role of "navel show off" girl and "useless" to plot.
I will lie if i say that i like Minfilia, i meant, this character first has no use at all in the whole story, i find her dress kinda "too much" and not very serious, also her voice in my version is Obnoxious. So when she passed away, i was happpy, and when we meet her in the sea of stars, i almost loud of laugh. She was so weird and ridiculous, and once again, so useless.
All other character of the dawn have a use in the plot, a role to play, a moment where we know they are here for something.
But meh, Minfilia, just give "order" do not fight, do not study, do not look for answer, cant we imagine, more useless character really?
For me there is a mess up in this character, totally forgettable.
And then Lysa, is worst than Yda, which i regret somehow,
Like minfilia, she is blond, and show her navel to all. (tell me the point of this outfit again? cant we be serious 2 min, other caracter are designed with something which match up with their job or their personnality or role in the story)
And same as Minfilia, she is useless, each time she speak it is to complain herself, or give some unpolite comment in the scene, like if people care of her mind. I just feel her as a turist when she is in the scene, instead of the Louisoix childhood, or other character of Othard, she does nothing to make progress the narrative.
2 character if they were missing, the game wont suffer.
What are you thought about?
thx for your attention.
You finally encountered Minfilia... and Lyse.
By any chance, did you start your character in Gridania and got the cutscene with Yda / Papalymo?
