    FFXIV will never get necromancer. Skeletons and undead and raising the dead is extremely taboo in Asia. So much so that all references to skeletons were removed in the Chinese version of FFXIV and replaced with something else. It's illegal in China to show any skeletons anywhere as it's disrespectful to the dead. Considering the asian market is also appealing to SE, i doubt they will let players be necromancers. This was mentioned a loooooong time ago in FFXI where they wanted to make a Necromancer, but due to pushback they had to change it to Puppetmaster. Won't happen for an online SE MMO. Fun fact, this is why we will never get a Gambler job, because gambling is seen as extremely taboo in Asia and considered very offensive (which is why Gambler became Corsair in FFXI).

    Okay. Explain the DRK level 60-70 quest line.

    Explain also, Gold Saucer, including the Gambler title you can claim from doing various activities there (Including, gambling on Cactpot scratch cards and the weekly Cactpot draw)

    Finally, explain AST's card drawing in a way that doesn't indicate that you're gambling on what cards to draw.

    Necromancer =/= raising skeletons.

    There are way more nuances to "Necromancy" than just simply raising skeletons and the dead (Also, explain Raising as a mechanic and the fact that zombies exist in the game (See: The first case in the Hildibrand questline) not to mention the ALC questlines in general that have had a focus around resurrecting the dead)

    Necromancy can take the form of guiding lost souls to rest. For example, Bhoots and Shiranui are both examples of souls of people that where unable to pass peacefully into the Lifestream (There's also that part in the MSQ in SB where you go through that dungeon filled with monsters created from the mad king's family/friends not to mention that area in The Lochs filled with even more lost spirits)

    Then, an extension of that could be spirits coming to aid you because they wish to atone for something they did in life and so you call them and they aid you and your allies.

    All the while, you draw upon dark aspected aether in order to call out to them. Meaning your skills are dark aspected, not unlike DRK who uses the Abyss to power their skills.

    Lol. Necromancer is the name I assigned to my SMN gearset because of the disease mage aspect. I would have really liked to have experienced THM back in the 1.0 days. I feel like they were going for something more like Scourge Warlock from Neverwinter, who had an entire paragon path devoted to healing via 'Life Steal'. Instead we got WoW Arcane Mage with some Control Wizard for flavor. Canonically speaking in FF, Dark Knight was job that relied on Drain and sacrificing HP for various skills. However I'm all for a paradigm shift when it comes to healer. We likely wont see it but I definitely like that idea.

    Heh! You could have also brought up Edda's batschiteness, who's name is an anagram of 'dead' and she is canonically tied to necromancy. The DRK 60-70 questline basically had me saying, "Ah, so my character is a necromancer, eh?" It's extremely close to the actual concept of it.

    There definitely isn't a reason why Necromancer cannot make it into the game, and being a healer would fit the job quite well. I would welcome it with open arms even if the devs totally curveballs us and mentions this as the new healer instead of DNC in 5.0.

    On a personal level, its probably as you say. But in terms of legality, Asia has a lot of issues with censorship requirements. China is particularly bad about it, even if a lot can get through, the sheer amount of time, money, and work it requires makes it easier to just avoid it so things don't need to be made twice. I mean sure you could just try to remove every single skeleton/corpse/carcass/etc., change out all the words that are harder to push through. Or you could just not step on a royal pain and use the core idea with none of the aesthetics. Which is cheaper, faster, and prevents players on other servers from being upset about foreign server unique goods which they mostly get because of all the things they can't get they we do.

    That's almost a lie. Macau (a SAR territory of China) is the biggest gambling location in the world, bringing in billions of dollars annually and overtaking Las Vegas a few years ago. Who are most of the customers that travel to Macau... people from mainland China (and other countries). Gambling isn't taboo if it is controlled and that's what the Chinese government allow with Macau. Asia has no issues with gambling, they are just generally wiser when it comes to money but to say they find it taboo when they actively participate in gambling is incorrect, especially in this day and age when mentalities are changing rapidly.
