    Necromancer

    Looking for a Dark healer but most in game are "sunshine and daisies". Be cool to see Necromancer as a healer. Uses death scythe to deal damage to enemy. Perhaps Doom and Death spell. What can make this a unique class is a "Soul Link" ability. Basically you become permanently linked with an ally and any beneficial effects from abilities will get transferred to that target. Transfer Debuffs from linked ally to enemy, or buffs from enemy to ally. And also a skill similar to War bloodbath ability, absorb 50% (or more) of damage given as hp for self or linked ally.

    This is a neat idea, I personally wouldn't mind having a healer in the game with a bit more edgelord-factor. And it makes sense since you're bringing people back from the dead... I'd expect them to be a bit lesser on the healing throughput side than WHM or AST, but have enhanced raising abilities. Maybe a single target auto-life like the pomander in PoTD or something. Give them high DPS for a healer to make them useful in farms, but the raising abilities making them good for prog. Seems legit.

    That sounds more like the original 1.0 release version of THM, which was all about using astral and umbral (light and darkness) elemental spells, using drain attacks to heal and inflicting negative debuffs on enemies. However the class was completely changed later in 1.0's life (as were all the other classes, but THM was one of the most radically altered) in preparation for Jobs - so that THM could upgrade to BLM, THM lost it's drain healing and gained fire, ice and lightning spells (which were formerly part of CNJ's spell kit), and the 'astral/umbral' aspect was altered to a kind of 'phase shift' for the aforementioned fire and ice spells.

    Also as far as necromancy goes, the game's lore makes it quite specific that necromancy is not only a strictly forbidden art, it is regarded almost as an abomination, involving the resurrection of the dead, or rather, the reanimation of a corpse as a zombie at the very least, or at worst, a voidsent demon takes up residence inside a mortal's former abode (paraphrasing a line from Buffy) which creates things like ahriman, naga, mindflayers and succubi.

    Time and again throughout FFXIV's storyline, even back in 1.0, the player has to constantly clean up the messes of foolish people who have dabbled in necromancy thinking it really does bring the dead literally back to life, only to end up with demonic or undead abominations (Tam Tara NM and HM, Haukke Manor NM to name a few), and the THM's Guild especially regards necomancy as a capital crime. Hence for that reason alone I do not see Necromancer ever being added as a player class or Job I'm afraid.

    Enkidoh has a point, but who better to master such an abominable art than the Warrior of Light?

    Of course s/he should have a master and all, but they could learn the ways of the necromancer together, just like the SMN storyline...

    Good points made, the funny thing is they ARE a thing in the world of ffxiv, so...it wouldnt be far fetched or impossible, esp as enkidoh saod how it was almost literally the original THM gameplay theme. Not entirely sure if the lore is for the whole of hydaleyn or if this is a close to Eorzea taboo, considering theres the new world, and many other continents on the planet yet to be discovered. For the moment id have to agree with enkidoh that it would seem like its a forbidden art and probably unlikely at least until we go to the seven hells or something

    I think geomancer would make a better tank... rock busters, stone wall, roots, magma eruptions...

    As for necromancer, I think we will see time mage or orator as healers before the devs start contemplating necromancer

    Exactly my thoughts. Just about everything she stated could actually be how the job is introduced. The MSQ itself does not acknowledge the WoL as any particular job. However, most if not all class/job quest I've done involves your character overcoming the challenges that comes with their discipline.

    The lore with white magic also talks about it being a forbidden discipline, with only certain individuals allowed to practice it. And even though there are WHMs everywhere you look when playing the game; to the game, you are one of very few WHMs in the realm if you play this job. Also, (2.5 - 3.0 spoiler)
    we see Y'shtola in two instances use forbidden magic, and the magic used to retrieve her from the lifestream, intact by the elder seedseer I would imagine is also one you're not going to find in a common book.



    It's not my first choice in a new healer, but I think it could work. It would be interesting to see how necromancy could be used for good. Hmmm, draining the HP of your enemies and giving it to your allies -

    I would be all for this. It would a nice original take on the job and reintroduce some of the old THM moves.
