So what is a Hrothgar?

I'm probably missing something but... Could it be just one of the "tribe" of viera... I mean, we have Plainsflok and dunesfolk Lalafell... Maybe just maybe a Hrothgar is just the second tribe/type of viera... Cause you know, male viera are a thing in the lore and even in the artwork of viera, back in 2.0 they make clear that genderlock race aren't gonna be a thing and the second species of viera need a name anyway so...

Someone PLEASE make as much art of female Hrothgar and male Viera as possible so we can post them on the forums and show the devs that WE DO NOT WANT GENDER LOCKED RACES.

Since I've been posting a lot of male Viera on the other thread, have what will hopefully be a future playable female Hrothgar that someone else has drawn:

She is absolutely gorgeous. I would love females like this in the game.

I would also like it if Hrothgar (both male and female) were more bestial like Charr/Khajit/Bangaa. IMO, male Pantera are in a weird spot between human and animal that just doesn't look right.

They've confirmed the two clans to be called Rava and Veena. So, Hrothgar isn't a clan.

Ho ok, but aren't they over-thinking things ? Can't see how having male option for viera may look weird to them and require a separate race. Lore reason ? Meh, they can do whatever they want with the lore since Ivalice is his own itteration and can have is own FFXIV rules apllied to it...

They even said recently Viera will be the last new race if I remember correctly.

I don't know why they think male bunnies would look weird considering there is cat boys in the game and they look just fine. They even did concept art for them and they looked pretty good. I think it just boils down to Yoshi-P's personal taste. He is the one, after all, that rejected the mature Lakshmi look and replaced her with a waifu version (Soken admits to having to fight to use his original music for Lakshmi since Yoshi-P wanted a cuter girl to sing). Also, the massive downgrade that Au Ra females got from their concept art... It's pretty easy to see where his preferences lie.

As coy as they are being, I imagine they are going to pull the whole... "Viera are the last race... we made Hrothgar before them! Tee hee!" card.

As I RP as a mix'd Miqo'te (both clans), I would love a beefier female Hroathgar. I could RP as being a stronger specimen of cat. Or a Meracydian Miqo'te even.

You know, they could get around implementing male Viera, adhering to the lore of males being so rare no one's ever seen them, and yet still provide them, by making a closely related, but separate race of rabbit-like people, who are exclusively male, and call them the Hrothgar.

Viera lore remains intact and we get bunny bois.

You don't really say stuff like that. It dates your game if you're like "Yeah, this is the LAST race we're adding...".

Now, a game like GW2 can say the're not adding any new races at all because they have legit reasons being that tons of time, money and resources go into designing these racial starting points, race based quest, lore between the races and the fact that their races are all very visually different meaning they would have far more work to do in fitting clothing for them. But this aint GW2.

As for FF14, I can easily see a time where they stop making races but add in mix-race tribe options that reuse the same assets and models and animations but with some key features from other races. Like Potato with bunny ears and different faces or a Roe with horns and scale tail. There's more than one mixed raced NPC in the game so I could see that happening down th line.
