Rescue sees pretty regular use in high end organised play and it can be a great optimisation tool across multiple turns, particularly with regards to teammates that don't have a gap closer of their own.

In pug play I mostly use it to reposition people that are evading my heals and bubbles frankly. The game's net code and latency is such that using it to pull people out of AoEs needs to be done quite a bit in advance, so meh to that.

As a griefing tool? Eh, the cooldown is so long that it's not particularly abusable, not to mention that it gets blocked by other movement abilities and stuns. If it had a short 30 second or less cool down I'd agree that there was a lot more potential to ruin someone's raid with it. But as is. Meeeh, what's the worst that a trolling healer can do? Get you a vulnerability stack in 24 man? Cause a clearly identifiable wipe in an 8 man?

It's a novel and interesting tool that actually has some use. Let's not look to ruin that please =(

On the contrary - since they wizened up and stopped restricting cross-class (to a point where skills like "Rescue" were left on the bench by anyone who was not intentionally out to troll), people have had plenty of situations/opportunities to use it. Methinks you'd be surprised how many buttons actually get pressed less than rescue does.

Let's see - most recent 5hr session as WHM & AST last night:
-- First boss in Monastery - always some people who just can't tell where the safe-spots are during the bombs & golems. Can give one a helping hand.
-- A DPS vs TGCid didn't know what to expect during the ice-phase and was stuck on his own in the empty circle on full health watching us DPS-check on the opposite side. Gave him the "GET OVER HERE" Scorpion treatment and rescued the git right through the ice - much faster (less damage taken).
-- Tanks who tank'n'spank the 1st boss in the Arboretum and don't pre-emptively move when plant-food arrives. Rescue the git right to it so I don't have to watch them making a failed dash for the tiny safe-zone when boss starts casting arena-wide bad-breath (aint nobody got time for esuna, got stones to throw over here).
-- Alphascape 2.0 - still quite a few people doing this seemingly for the first time. Was an infinite number of moments where I could have pulled someone out of a mechanic they were unsure of (in/out circles, pull people away from the line Midgar is going to dive-bomb, pull that random lazy-ass full-HP DPS into stack-marker etc etc).
-- Alphascape 3.0 - always gonna be that one person who doesn't know their Star/Larboard. If you want to be a total ass, you can pull someone you hate through the fatal circle (thing where the DPS check spawns) and insta-gib them.
-- The Burn - Spot dragon and notice a DPS still doing their crazy lap on the other side of the arena and about to eat a face full of frost? Rescue the sod.
-- Skalla - always that one sprout who doesn't notice Pull/Push mechanic of first boss, or doesn't move out of tail/claw swipes of third boss.
-- See that player who's about to eat a full knock-back mechanic off the platform in the likes of Alpha1/4, Delta4 etc? Rescue to the... Rescue?

The list goes on and on and on and on.

Rescue can be situationally handy provided the caster is pre-emptive. There's been an infinite number of times where I get to watch in slow-motion (for anything between 3-6 seconds) of some diabolical DF random about to meet their maker while I sit there looking at my Rescue cooldown and saying a quiet prayer for the soon-to-be-departed. While a lot of said situations aren't typically fatal (unless target is already banged up), I'd much rather prevent that damage with a quick instant-cast than have to add yet another Cure-cast because Joe Soap is about to chow down on unnecessary mechanic-damage. Bonus points if it's saving someone who's just unfamiliar with certain mechanics. If people are intentionally eating them, I like to let them suffer.

The only time I use it right now is in the current Expert roulette to keep a bad melee or tank in range of that one boss that uses Devour.

It has use elsewhere but I'd rather let a DPS eat a hit I can heal and spot them up when able than use it.

People complaining about being trolled with it have a point, but I have to wonder if they're actually paying attention. My static's WHM uses it a lot more and about 50% of the time they do they later complain about their target running back into the AoE they just tried to pull them out of.

In Savage said WHM uses it on me in O11 fairly often due to my poor positioning on Panto 1. I often run a bit too far out after getting my laser marker because I'm between both of our tanks and I want to ensure I don't clip either of them with it. We use our compass positions for it specifically but make tanks & healers take it first, then DPS, and it just so happens that mine puts me on the opposite corner from the stack area we use afterward.

I can feel ops rage if im playing tank cls in dailys or raids and random healer use it on me without asking... if its not trolling its just not well thought grabbing the tank out of his positional and cooldown-plans. Still laughing about one healer who "rescued" me with a stack marker which I planned to eat with holy ground = he killed half of the grp and blamed... me ^^'

rescue is indeed a two edged sword in casual content... but can be a mighty tool in organized teamplay how so ever.

remove Rescue? no, it needs to be buffed, by reducing its cooldown and by making it faster/more responsive, sometimes players get hit while they're being pulled to me, not sure if its a latency thing or if the pull is too gradual

The problem is that Its a pull, not a teleport. So there's always a chance of getting hit on the way.
Also, human reaction times are a far bigger factor. By the time you've registered the need to rescue, targetted the player and then used it, it's already too late.

It's far too slow. It needs to be instant - or as close as this game can get to instant anyway.

It's a lifesaver for strategically dealing with raid mechanics, but I've kicked healers for disrupting my spellcasting before cause they put their stellar field somewhere dumb & not use helios instead or "rescuing" me straight to my death when I've Aetherial Manipped somewhere safe.

I've been using it to save co-healers in alliance raids, since their aoe casts are so long.

I had a healer rescue me through Rams Voice in cutters cry, when I was already clear.
And had a healer rescue me to the position they wanted me to tank Capt Madison in Sastasha.
