    Won't preorder the expansion until we get a new healer announcment.
    Although I love the game I'm not ready to continu if I have to choose between only 3 jobs to play :/

    Scouting/aiming especially feels entirely redundant, the sets have identical main stats and the same basic appearance. At least maiming is sometimes a visual copy of tank gear and has that weird 'higher pdef' gimmick going on.

    ... Unless gunbreaker is a STR tank... That would be interesting.
    All tanks already use STR for damage scaling.

    Aiming and Scouting don't have the same or similar appearance. Scouting tends to share models with Striking.
    Visually it would make more sense to merge Scoutung and Striking, and have NIN scale off STR.
    Then we'd only need another Maiming (could do with more heavy DPS anyway) and an Aiming (to round out physical ranged to 3)

    I'm also against consolidating gear sets due to melding conflicts. Its bad enough that BLM needs spellspeed to function, hindering my RDM.
    Plus there's glamours to deal with too.

    I went and did a quick check, it's not as many as I thought but roughly 50% of Scouting sets are just Aiming with the colours changed. The other 50% are Striking with the colours changed...

    Visually it makes just as much sense for all the DEX users to use the same DEX gear.
    Merging Maiming/Striking and Scouting/Aiming gives us 3 and 3 rather than your split of 1, 3 and 2. I'd prefer a 3 and 3 split even if it costs me the ability to sometimes look like a MNK instead of a BRD.

    I'd like materia changing up anyway, so we can meld on a per job basis.

    It's guaranteed that we'll at least get a new healer with the expansion, along with Gunbreaker. Whether or not there is a third new job, we don't know. And it's highly likely the new healer is Dancer.

    I'm not saying this because I think dancer should be a dps, but I recall everyone in being pretty sure samurai was gonna be a tank since RDM was a dps. Point being nothing's guaranteed; more than likely and definitely a good decision though? Yes.

    Hmm. I had no idea there was as much Scouting stuff that looked like Aiming. The aiming stuff tends to be flamboyant Bard-tailored attire and I can't imagine a ninja using that.
    I suppose a heavy melee and a ranged physical being added in 6.0 would just make that 4 and 4, and round it out to a neat 4 roles for each gear type, if you include BLU in that...

    But I'm not sure how changing all this would work logistically.
    Take the 24 man gear for example. NIN gets Ramza's knight outfit, while the ranged get Balthier's. If these get merged, do they both become 'Scouting/Aiming' gear at the same time?

    I don't think there will be any kind of merging like that, but even if there will be change, it would be for the new gears. They wouldn't have to change already established gears.

    lol, that might be a deciding factor oddly enough, might have to check.
    If the Bard gets something that looks sensible then scouting/aiming share, if they get something a bit more flamboyant then scouting has to look like striking instead.

    Yep, that sort of neat symmetry just appeals to me for some reason. 4/4/4/4/4 by 6.0.

    If it was me in charge of it, I wouldn't delete any old sets, just that going forward I'd trim things down to 5.
