I'm straight and I'm not into LGBT at all. But I do find it annoying how males usually get shafted with almost everything. Especially when it comes to glamour. Took them 3 years to ungenderlock the bunny suit. I don't even like the design of the Au Ra either with males being huge and the females being dainty. If male viera do exist as part of the new race they should be closer to their female counterparts with heels and feminine features. Male Roes, Male Au Ras and Male Highlanders already cover the swol masculine trope. Seiryu was a nice change of having a male boss who didn't look like a swol abomination but he was still rather slithery with his lowerparts, compared to Suzaku who looked mostly normal. If they don't give us male Viera, I might seriously quit this game. Not because I must play one (I do want to though) but because I don't want to support a company that would do something as disgusting. And no, I don't want a male only race either. If it's some kind of lion race? How about NO! We have felines already!
I hate that I'm going to sound like some kind of SJW here but I'm so sick of this pandering to straight men, with waifus everywhere. Even bosses are mainly made out of waifus. If they're male they usually look like ass, barely human if at all.
Why not just have both. One clan being more masculine and another being more feminine? It's not like skin colors matter too much because you can get a duskwight elezen and give him more wildwood looking human colors.
I'd pay money for a outfit similar to this on male characters.
And that's not even touching other properties like say, ADEKAN.
When has there been ANYTHING comparable in the West, let alone in videogames? Seriously, Orlando Bloom as Legolas is about as close as I'm getting.
Japan is way more sexually comfortable than the West on this front. Square Enix specifically is also way more comfortable. I'm going to say that given how much they keep putting in male fanservice and pretty guys for their games, they know there's an audience for it.
Someone on another site pointed out the female Viera share the same facial model, which suggests Viera just aren't finished yet. This makes a lot of sense to me. We have half a year before release. Panicking is premature.![]()
I call him Snake Bishie. XD He's absolutely gorgeous. His Japanese VA just drips of sexiness. Byakko too is super hot but then as you say the lower parts of Snake Bishie is a big wtf, same goes for Byakko's creepy arm.
I wish that we'd get both pretty/elegant and strong/masculine buns of both genders. Even better would be if the other clan is more cutesy. The looking like young Elezen comment that was dropped does sound promising. If we do end up getting male buns, I will also be switching my female alt to a female Viera. At least to try it out.
I'm trying so hard to stay positive. I really want to since I'm actually hyped for this expansion which I wasn't for Stormblood. I am psyched about the areas and the music we've seen so far. So I hope with all my might that they won't flippity flop it up by doing something as silly as gender locking races. Come on SE, make me have faith in you again!
From the time they pretty much showed up in Tactics, the Viera race has mainly been shown on the female side...
There is such a thing as trying too hard to find something to complain about.
Okay. I doubt this to be the case, but an idea ((Which may have come up already, I skipped ahead since I figured by the time I read 15 pages, I'd have another 15 pages to read on this contentious topic)) came to me.
Maybe we'll see a male Viera in 4.55, and they aren't showing them so said character will be the first glipse of them.
Mostly this was the only thing that I could come up with at this point for why we haven't seen anything about Male Viera, even a "This race is female only, stop speculating."((As noted before, even if the Models aren't done, they should have been able to show us design sketches))
Otherwise their silence on the matter is a little tone deaf. ((Or hypothetically, they're drafting a proper response that won't be misconstrued.))
And Mithra were female only as well, with males never being seen... until Lehko Habhoka in Wings of the Goddess. There's no reason why they couldn't just say "they are being worked on, they're just not ready yet." Before people say "it's to build hype," yeah nah. It's clearly doing the opposite.

The Miqo'te males are also described as being extremely rare or few in numbers, but i also have the feeling they're going to repeat 1.0 and have it be female only.
I'm perfectly fine with Viera being only female if that were the case. Their lore (Beyond what's relayed in the recent raid) states male Viera are notoriously rare and hidden. This has been a thing since Viera were first introduced into the grander Final Fantasy lore. I mean, has there been any male Viera in any of the Final Fantasies that had Viera in them? Now, I say "If that were the case" because they neither confirmed or denied there weren't male Viera. We won't know for sure until Shadowbringers hits.
The difference here is that while Miqo'te males are rarer than females, they're still abundant enough to be seen in many areas across Eorzea. They also live with female Miqo'te, and tend to have leadership roles in their community. Basically, their societies are similar in that to real world lions albeit a bit less violent. Male Viera however do not live with female Viera and are reclusive. While the female ones are known to be combative and adventurous, the male ones aren't at all. This lore has been set in stone years prior to FFXIV even being thought of.
Can Squeenix change the established lore? Sure, but that's like demanding an author change their story. As a writer myself, I can tell you it's not something we'd do willingly. But who knows, maybe with enough pushback they might find some way of adding male Viera into the roster while keeping their lore intact.
