Couldn't say what role Minfilia's going to play in 5.0.

She's supposed to be Hydaelyn's answer to Elidibus. She (and we) are being attacked, seemingly by agents of the Light.

That leaves everything very... uncertain. A lot has to happen in 4.55 for this to start making sense.

Child Minfilia may represents the Good aspect of Light that is willing to give other people a chance and takes into consideration not everything related to Darkness is Evil but then we have these "Agents" of Light that is seeking to kill Minfilia and "clense" the world of Darkness.

I consider this "Agents of Light" faction to be the Evil of Light, or simply the extremists faction, which represents the extreme part of those who follow the Light such as absolute belief all aspect of Darkness is Evil and only way to bring "true" peace is the complete destruction of Darkness. Such as those stories where Humans and/or Angels treat all Demons/beast-kin/etc as Evil and seek to clense them from the world but then the story shows Demons are no different from Humans other than being different race and thus have both good and evil aspects to them just the same as anything else.

Killing Child Minfilia maybe similar to removing all aspect of doubts in a "person", being the Light, and leaving the only part of Light left being the Evil aspect of Light that does whatever it takes to destory Darkness forever even if it means "cleansing" the world of semi-innocent lives to leave only the most pure aspect of Light.

while I don't like Minfillia myself,I'm not surprised the child of light turned out to be a reincarnated minfillia

I just hope that by the time we get to see her back on her role as leader of the scion if that happens in 5.1,that we see more of what her job entails rather than it being off-screen

We went to many alliance meetings, political negotiations alongside Alphinaud,a freakin parley with Emperor Varis himself.....why not go further and let us be involved more in Minfillia's work even if its a side quest line

Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Minfilia’s body turn to aether/vanish when she pledged all of her being to big momma crystal? Perhaps returning in a smaller body is easier, uses less aether.

As for how she is back, she might have used the light from the flood of light to sneak her way back to The Source. Heck, the light from the flood could very well come from the same place, making for some interesting interaction between reflection and source.

actually minfillia did leave for the world satured by the light with the warrior of darkness...
let summarize some point that seems interesting:
    1) minfillia is known for have travel to another world
    2) our companion have fall unconscious and when they did try to track down them soul.... they had no trace in hyadelin...
    3) our character is seen in a world bathed in light and forced to switch to be a warrior of darkness...
    4) Solus have talk to be away from the empire for an extended period of time, since ascien can teleport it means that he goes very far away.
    5) finally, it seems we must work for stop the 8th calamity....

then we can think that we will be transported to the world of light for try to stop the ascien to fuse the world of light with hyadelin and avoid the 8th calamity.... why minfilia is a kids, simply because she had no body when she did travel between world, she had to create a new one.

I've just been back through 3.1-3.3 in the past week or so, and took a different alt through 3.4 a few months ago. After the Antitower (quest: "Word of the Mother", cutscene 2) when you first see Minfilia as the 'Word of the Mother', at the end she struggles to hold her form and seems to shatter and vanish. But then you get to 3.4, and Urianger pulls his grand scheme to get you and the Warriors of Darkness together, which somehow causes your crystals to channel energy to Hydaelyn and you all get warped to the aetherial sea.

"One Life for One World", cutscene 4: Minfilia appears again and says that because of the extra strength Hydaelyn has gained because of this, She has been able to set Minifilia free to act as Her emissary to the First Shard. (It's implied that she's basically an anti-Ascian at this point - the title of emissary suggests a direct opposite to Elidibus.) To save that world, we are told, it may be necessary for her to remain there forever.

    And yet as she departs...

    MINFILIA

'Tis a strange feeling. So many times have I watched you depart, my heart filled with worry, and yet ever did you return to me in triumph.

Someday, when I have found a way to free this star from Her sorrow, I promise you I shall repay the favour.
We watch her go, afraid that we may never see her again. But someday, she promises, she will return to us in triumph. That's the sort of promise that tends to get upheld in a story.

It doesn't sound at all like a permanent farewell to me.

I mean, we have been told about parrallel universe so, my guess would be a Minfilia from another shard and, considering how much Thancred loved her and was devastated by her "death", he kind of "replace" her and see this one as the original Minfilia, thus keeping the promies he made to protect her.

Could be interesting, she could have a personnality completely different, we could even imagine her as the Word of Zodiarc, manipulating Thancred and trying to bring the Dakness using him and us ^^
(I find her weird in the trailer)
I stick with my idea ^^

This whole 'please don't say anything even slightly negative' mentality that we seem to be going towards and the devs seemingly pushing towards it is creating a disturbing trend.

I really hope they don't go down the route of alternate versions of charactersl ike that. The shards are alternate worlds but I was never lead to believe that they were like, star trek mirror universe where everyone's a different version of someone from out world.

That specific quote doesn't refer to any form of return. She claims she will one day return the favour (regarding the WoL having always been there for her). This is not the same as Minfilia saying she promises to return. She does imply that elsewhere during that same cutscene/moment - that she will try to find a way to return, but that in itself is not a favour to the WoL - what that is remains to be seen, and likely has something to do with diverting the cataclysm and all that (again, assuming this all isn't some light/dark ruse/ploy).

We can see now that she does return in one way or another (unless this is some sort of light or dark shenanigans), but the favour you refer to remains to be seen.

I think you're misreading her first line. She isn't saying we've "always been there for her", she's saying we "always returned to her".

So many times we have departed, leaving her to worry until we come back safely - but we always do.

Now she is departing, and knows that we-her-friends will be worried for her - and promises she will return the favour by coming back to us in the end.

She doesn't directly say "I will return to you" (I was paraphrasing when I wrote that) but I can't see any other way to interpret those two sentences together.
