Thread: Possible Gunblade Job teacher?

In the Blue Mage questline we meet Whastrach, a fellow Blue Mage who went to the New World with Martyn, unlike Martyn however, he seems more interested in Magiteknology, and thinks the GCs need to look into arming themselves with more Magitek, he seems like a perfect candidate for a future GUN job teacher

his character didn't really scream "Teacher" to me
he could show up in the quest lines
but as a teacher not sure

Sounds like he needs to make friends with Stephanivien from the machinists' guild...

hopefully it's a new character, new job should be fresh in every way

To me he comes off looking to see what can make him some gil as he was part of the arcanist guild. Then went to the new world and learned blue magic but because it would put him in debt he quit going there. Claims to hold the current plight of those who taught him the art to close to his chest but it at least to me came off like he only said that to try and get us to see him in a good light.

It'd make much more sense to learn how to wield a Gunblade from an actual Garlean. One of the Populares, perhaps.

BLU level 50 Quest:

Whastrach is a straight up antagonist after a certain point, given that it turns out that the only reason he saves the Whalaqee is so he can scam them into signing over legal rights to their sacred grounds as ceruleum is located within them. Earlier on, he also straight up admits that his ceruleum ends up in Garlean hands just as often as Eorzean.

I agree with Theodoric on this one. It makes way more sense and is far simpler for the Gunblade job to just be taught by an actual Garlean of some description. With figures like the Populares and Gaius around, there is ample evidence for Garleans who do not entirely support the empire, or at least would be willing to work with us outside of it. There's also the possibility of it being some sort of soldier from one of the occupied regions (like Ala Migho or Dalmasca) that learned the art of the Gunblade and then offered to share his skills. One of my personal favorite ideas is that the class will be Judge, a martial tradition that has fallen out of favor among the Empire due to more reliance on powerful magitek weapons.

I guess it mainly depends what level Gunblade will become available at, if it is 50, and in an ARR area, it might not be one of the Populares due to where it is placed level wise

Personally I'd like for Dress to teach us. Though it would probably conflict with his appearances in other side quests it'd be nice to see him possibly get some closure with his own past.
