You can get through the entire story without having to stop and earn gil. Just sell all of the junk you get. Pick up side quests that offer gear. The MSQ gil rewards will end up paying for all of your teleporting needs. Basically the gil in this game is mainly for indulging in any side content (crafting, housing, etc.). There are multiple ways to earn battle gear that doesn't involve gil at all. But I think the devs did a pretty good job of making sure you have plenty of gil to carry you through the story. Side quests can always give you a little more.

I used to be an adventurer, but then my ping increased.

They did cap the teleportation cost at 999 gil. I DO however think that all hub areas like Rhalgr's Reach, Idyllshire, and all Towns like Gridania and Limsa Laminsa should get the half off price your favorites get.

Don't forget the Saucer have its teleport price halved and if you make it a favorite it goes to be your gateway from SB to ARR zones.

I just wish the porters had the option to take you to the closest large city nonstop. That way, I could start the trip, and go for a pee break and coffee refill while my character is navigated automatically through the confusing maze of zones back to the city. One thing that drives me to use an expensive teleport is that I just can't figure out a path to my destination using the in-game maps.

Also, I suppose there is the security token, which gets you an additional free destination. (Wondering if it's also free of the Home cooldown.)

Or, with the world rapidly expanding with each... expansion... maybe we should get more favourite slots.
One per expansion would be ideal.

It has no cooldown like Return does, as it's not a separate spell. It just makes your chosen destination free to teleport to. Any time.

The teleport system really needs to be readdressed as the continue to expand the geography of the game 999 cap is nice but even that adds up when they do these MSQ quests that have you popping back and forth all day between Limsa and Doma.

I’m more in favor of a system that asks how long it’s been since your last teleport instead of distance traveled to determine price. Also the removal of Return as a spell with the tradeoff being you can teleport for free by interacting with a large aethercyte.

Except Return is necessary in some instances, such as Haukke Manor, and it solved the recent glitch in Orbonne Monastery.

Return is not necessary in Haukke. The door on the back of the first boss room opens precisely to be shortcut on the run back. Is it convenient to use there, yes. But in no way necessary.

If you say 'pls' because it's shorter than 'please', I say 'no' because it's shorter than 'yes'.

Additionally, there's nothing saying that they don't add crystal ball or something, like what you see in Haukke Hard Mode, after defeating the second boss that interacting with it returns you to the entrance. But yes, you don't have to use Return in Haukke, and it actually saves you only a few seconds (I know as I've gone through Haukke in a party with Return on cooldown. I had used it before popping in)
