Well to be fair they only took the worse aspects of XI.
But unpopular opinion XI was not a great game by any means and was just a glorified time sink with subpar game play from the old MMO Era where honestly it should stay.

The best thing about XI was the leveling. I'm still friends with tons of people I met 15 years ago while leveling. Some of the greatest bonds and memories were from leveling. Not just random people I spent 15 mins at a time with running through some mindless instance most likely carrying at least one. You had to know your job and Perform it well otherwise you were not going to make it far. My closest best friend I met in valkum dunes as a level 12 thf with no sub job. Ffxi wasnt perfect but it is certainly not bad.
Generally what I get from people it is the exp loss on death. Usually this comes from people who still carelessly run around zones or do stupid things and die frequently.
Fates are just fates. FFXI didn't have fates. It had NMs and HNMs and most had much longer respawns than Eureka. Many are just named in reference to certain ones in FFXI with a small number dropping items.
Hey twin!
(I know, looking super classy!)
Again, my experience in Eureka is quite limited, but it seems like there are always plenty of raises to be had when in the FATE train, but I suppose if you're off in a small group elsewhere this could be more of a problem. Or running around doing stupid things like you saidGenerally what I get from people it is the exp loss on death. That does remind me of another similarity with XI. The overworld mobs can actually hurt and you can't easily outrun them if you aggro the wrong thing. Although, that is a plus to me personally as I've always felt the XIV overworld needed spicing up.
XI controls weren't bad though. It just played like a traditional FF game with the menu based combat, while taking a few liberties here and there. Maybe if you played on PC, but just ignore the mouse and the controls are, again, functional for the game. Yeah, it'll take some getting used to, but I wouldn't say people would get frustrated over it unless they weren't willing to learn it at all.
Eeeeehhh, XI controls/UI/menus leave much to be desired IMO. I DO like the fact that I can play completely with just my keyboard (no need of the mouse), but it's not a very intuitive system overall. When I had gone back years ago after my long break, I was so damn lost. Couldn't even open the main menu. lol. Once you familiarize yourself with how it all works it's all fine and dandy, but I don't know if I would personally say that the controls are "good".XI controls weren't bad though. Just be thankful you don't have to climb Parradamo Tor in ff14 /thread
