No there is not, other than hitting the level cap (default without expansions is level 50, with only Heavensward installed is level 60, and with both HW and Stormblood installed it's level 70.). As the game will automatically not grant EXP if a class has reached that cap, either simply not granting any EXP at all or setting the amount of EXP rewarded automatically to zero.

That's why I would suggest that people stick with MSQ first and only do other things that give exp when needed to continue MSQ.

I've checked Google, threads and at menus in the game. So far I haven't been able to see if there is a way that enables the player to prevent themselves from gaining Exp (Few other MMORPGs have this).
I am afraid there is no way to stop gaining Exp.
However, the possibility of changing classes/jobs and thus spreading out any Exp gained among several classes combined with level-syncing for FATEs and group instances there is less need to halt Exp gains than there are in other MMOs.

This is good advice! I ran into this at around level 30 when I wanted to get my job but I was on, like, level 16 MSQ quests. I had to advance the MSQ quite a bit first and ended up finishing the first job quest at level 34. From then on, I've mostly focused on just MSQ (apart from grinding up some GC ranks), and even with the Road to 60 experience buff I ended up being only a couple of levels ahead by the time I got into Stormblood. I just hit level 64 and I'm doing level 62 quests.

Leveling another class is also a great idea, especially if you don't want to advance that MSQ so you can experience it with someone else.

Levels significantly matter for two things. What is the highest tier content you can partake in and what is the gear that you can use. There is just no reason to stop gaining experience in this game since there is no such thing as highest level limit to do any content. If you are higher level you will simply be synced down.

Even playing with another person, there is barely any difference. Grinding on normal mobs is the only place where higher level interferes on its own, but all you need to do is use lower level gear. If you want to "grind" with lvl30 person as a lvl50 person, buy the normal quality, merchant-made gear that a lvl30 person can wear and you should have stats comparable to lvl30 person with good dungeon gear, because majority of stats in this game come from gear, not levels. If someone wants to stop gaining experience completely, then clearly it's not a problem for them that when they run lvl30 dungeon or FATE that they'll be getting pittance of an experience bonus as a level 50. So that's not a problem.

As for this thread...it's from 2013. Trying to make suggestions to the original poster is pointless, especially since he apparently left shortly after. Probably his girlfriend quit and he didn't find enjoyment, seeing as he still have lvl37 paladin but lvl50 warrior and disciple of land and hand classes. So yes...he won't even read anything.
